Description
Planning a Hawaiian honeymoon? Duke’s enviable waterfront location, fun-loving yet professional staff, and island-optional event theme will give you a taste of it right here on Malibu’s crystal shores. This supremely popular restaurant and private banquet rooms embody "the spirit of aloha," an optimistic attitude of universal fellowship, hospitality, and appreciation of life—a perfect ambiance for celebrating new beginnings!
Duke’s was inspired by the memory of the legendary Duke Kahanamoku and the benevolent values which he personified. This extraordinary Olympic athlete popularized the sport of surfing, and also heroically rescued shipwreck victims from treacherous seas. In his twilight years, Duke served as Hawaii’s official "Ambassador of Aloha." The first Duke’s Restaurant was opened in Kauai with the Kahanamoku family’s blessing. Nowhere beyond Hawaii has Duke’s impact been more profound than on the beaches of California, so Malibu is an ideal site for the mainland version of the hit eatery that bears his name.
Duke’s aloha spirit embraces guests right from the parking lot: the greeting is emblazoned on a sign hanging from the A-frame bungalow-style building. Even the valets seem infected with a relaxed solicitude. Event guests are welcomed through a private entrance, and are ushered into the Moana Room, which can be used for one large reception or divided for each phase of your event.
This lovely space has a wall of beachfront windows, and is built out over the waterso it seems as if you’re on a cruise ship with the waves lapping against the hull. Two other walls, paneled in the rare and valuable Hawaiian koa wood, give off a rich luster. In addition, the beach side of the room has French doors that open onto a narrow balcony, where guests may enjoy a quiet moment away from the festivities, perhaps to take in one of Malibu’s famed sunsets. You can arrange tables around the dance floor and hula the night away while the moon peeks in from the distance.
If you have something more conventionally elegant in mind, then watch as Duke’s is transformed with white damask chair covers, sophisticated table settings, and centerpieces of white lilies and candles. The cuisine, too, is adaptable. The regular menu features fresh seafood and prime rib prepared with a Hawaiian twist. But Duke’s fine chef would be delighted to satisfy your every culinary desire. And if you want the best authentic Hawaiian music or the freshest leis to deck out the wedding party, the Banquet Manager is happy to lend a hand.
After all, it’s what Duke would have wanted.
