Description

One way people show they like a place is when they’re willing to travel a considerable distance to get there. That’s certainly the case with the Crystal Ballroom in Laguna Hills, which is deep in southern Orange County. People come from as far away as Los Angeles County to check out the ballrooms here.

For many, the enchantment starts with the first thing they see—the hotel’s Mediterranean-style atrium, a hexagonal two-story space with large arches at each level. It’s decorated with wrought-iron railings and sconces, and a great 36-lamp chandelier descends to light the space. The grand staircase that goes up to the ballrooms rises beside 30-foot-high floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Crystal Ballroom itself is formal and elegant, with crown molding, mirrors, wrought iron lamps and six great glittering beaded crystal chandeliers that look like they’ve been crowned with blazing candles. The beautifully proportioned room is a marvelous stage for decorative effects. Many of those effects are provided gratis by the hotel, including votives and hurricane lamps on dining tables, complimentary floor-length linens, and floral flourishes on the presentation, gift and guest book tables. Uplighting can also be added to create an intimate, romantic atmosphere. The Justine Room, ideal for smaller parties, has the same attractive touches as the Crystal Ballroom.

Couples often get married on site as well, staging their ceremony in one of the ballrooms or the indoor “veranda,” the foyer that runs the length of the ballrooms. Lit by a series of chandeliers, it’s a flexible, charming space that accommodates buffets and cocktails, too. The nearby Sierra Patio (nice for smokers or for just getting some fresh air) is shaded by the tall arches on the hotel’s façade and looks out toward mature trees and landscaping——it’s almost like being in the woods.

Taking full advantage of its sunny Southland location, the Crystal Ballroom also hosts ceremonies at its “Enchanted Poolside.” Weddings here, conducted beneath tall, slender palms and beside the hotel’s almost tropical-style architecture, are balmy and romantic. Floral arrangements float atop the water and festive decorations adorn the trees.

Another party option is renting the hotel’s bar on the first floor. It works well for a cocktail reception, or as a separate place for guests to go during the festivities upstairs. Although you may bring in your own caterer, if you choose the hotel’s kitchen you can look forward to some extraordinarily colorful and eye-catching presentations. The culinary staff is happy to customize menus, whether simple or elegant, and even prepare tastings for ethnic dishes so you can see if you like their renditions of them. At your ceremony and/or reception, the hotel will set up hors d’oeuvres buffet-style, or provide waiters at no additional cost. They even offer a complimentary night’s stay and post-wedding breakfast for the newlyweds.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: The ballroom can accommodate 300 seated or 700 standing guests indoors, and 150 seated or 250 standing outdoors.

MEETING CAPACITY: The site holds 425 seated guests for meetings.

Fees & Deposits

A $1,000 deposit is required to reserve your date. 50% of the total is due 90 days prior, and the balance is due 3 days prior to the event.

Meals range $24.95–41.95/person. Tax, alcohol and a 20% service charge are additional.

Availability

Year-round, daily, anytime. Basic time frames sold are 7am–4:30pm and 6pm–midnight or 7pm–1am. Additional hours are $250/hour based on availability. Holidays are subject to premium rate.
