Crockett Community Center

Description

Clinging to the shores of the Carquinez Strait, the quaint town of Crockett could easily be called "the town that time forgot." Stoplights and chain stores have passed it by. Many of the brick storefronts, cheerful bungalows and steep winding streets that you see in Crockett today existed prior to 1927, when the Carquinez Bridge was built and traffic zoomed past, instead of through, this little community. A great part of Crockett’s charm is that it’s not a preserved tourist attraction. Real people live here. When Crockett residents want to gather, they head for the Crockett Community Center.

Constructed in 1917 as a social club for employees of the nearby C & H Sugar Refinery, the Crockett Community Center was built in the classic Craftsman style. Inside, the Auditorium features a soaring vaulted ceiling with clearstory windows, a curtained stage and hardwood floors. The immense stone fireplace is fully functional, and has been the backdrop for many ceremonies. French doors along one wall open to an enclosed bar and seating area with windows overlooking the tennis courts and park.

If you’re looking for something more intimate than the 4,000-square-foot Auditorium, the Multi-Purpose room is available for groups of up to 50 people. It’s a favorite spot for baby showers, anniversaries, and children’s parties. The little ones can use the adjacent park area for outdoor fun.

Shaded by Chinese Pistache trees and flanked by a wooded hillside, the newly renovated park is popular for weddings and parties. The romantic gazebo is perfect for a garden ceremony on the large lawn area. Right next to the park, the delightful St. Mark’s Episcopal Chapel looks like something out of a fairy tale. If your wedding party is small, you might consider having your ceremony in the chapel, and including it in your photos.

The Crockett Community Center is not just a weekend event site—it’s frequently reserved for meetings or get-togethers during the week. Rental fees are very reasonable, making it a boon for those on a budget. Time may have forgotten the town of Crockett, but if you’re hosting a special event or meeting, you should definitely remember the Crockett Community Center.
