Cline Cellars

Description

Fred and Matt Cline spent their childhood summers in Oakley, California, learning farming and wine-making from their grandfather, Valeriano Jacuzzi (inventor of the Jacuzzi spa). Obviously the teacher and his lessons had a profound influence. The Cline brothers’ Rhone-style wines, created from some of the oldest and rarest grapevines in California, recall an earlier era of winemaking. Even their Sonoma Valley winery has an old-fashioned country charm, one as eternally appealing as Mom’s apple pie.

Thousands of rose bushes line the drive to the winery’s tasting room, an authentic 1850s farmhouse with Old Glory flying from the wide wraparound veranda. Expansive lawns on either side of the farmhouse contain rock-walled fresh water koi ponds, a remainder from the winery’s past, when it was the first North American carp farm. To get to the perfect spot for taking vows, walk over an arched stone bridge spanning a stream, and you’ll find yourself on a shady flagstone patio rimmed by a lotus pond with a stone fountain. The true-to-period reconstructed Adobe Mission is a charming nod to this site’s history—it’s where the original Mission San Francisco Solano was founded in 1823.

Ceremonies or receptions can be held in several locations: in the Adobe Mission or on the Adobe’s flagstone patio. Another popular site is the expansive Great Lawn bordered by ponds and mature willow trees. Here you have the option of using Cline Cellars’ 40’x40’ white festival tent to create an intimate environment for dining and dancing, giving guests the option of mingling inside or outside on the landscaped grounds. A relaxed, serene environment and vintage ambiance make Cline Cellars a good choice for special celebrations.
