Castle Green

Description

The ornate rooftops of this inviting Pasadena landmark soar high above the more mundane roofs of Old Pasadena, advertising Castle Green as a unique place to hold a special event. Once a posh hotel, this grand 1898 building is designed in an unusual style called Moorish Colonial, an arresting mixture of European and Middle Eastern design elements. Several towers capped with red domes and ornate wrought-iron balconies lend the Castle its handsome and distinctive silhouette. Also of visual interest is a whimsical bridge, extending from the main façade and connecting the two wings of the historic building.

If you get married here, your ceremony can be held in the Ballroom or in the surrounding garden, which is landscaped with tall, graceful palms and a tranquil fountain that trickles into a lily pool, evoking a feel of old-world romance. Recently restored, the Castle’s interior displays a wealth of late Victorian splendor. A pair of massive oak doors invites guests into a lofty lobby with a sweeping marble staircase and crystal chandelier. To the left you’ll find a cluster of impressive “sitting” rooms, including the spacious Main Salon and the circular Moorish Room. These now possess their original, turn-of-the-century colors of deep rose, soft green and ochre. The original antique furnishings, warm wood mouldings and extraordinary fireplaces complete the lovely and singular decor. A short passageway takes you to the Ballroom, distinguished by faux onyx wainscoting and a series of tall windows set into a curved wall, giving the room a circular feel. The room is in shades of cream and light green, with a coffered ceiling, pale stone-tiled floors and Irish hand-finished lace curtains. Further enhancing the entire main floor is lavish oriental-style carpeting which replicates the beautiful colors and patterns of the 1898 original.

Castle Green is an intriguing place for any type of event: a wedding, corporate gala, fundraiser or retirement party—but don’t take our word for it. This historic treasure is a cornucopia of visual delights, so arrange for a tour and draw your own conclusions.
