Description
The Carnelian Room is truly a "room with a view." And what a view it is! Occupying an enviable location on the top floor of the soaring Bank of America building, the Carnelian Room captures a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the San Francisco Bay, including the bridges, the Embarcadero, and the East Bay hills. Besides wining and dining, other pastimes at the Carnelian Room include picking out some of the area’s noteworthy landmarks like Angel Island and Coit Tower, counting the sailboats leaning into the breeze, or identifying the constellations in the star-filled night sky.
As spectacular as the cityscape is, there’s plenty to beguile you inside this gorgeous restaurant as well. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an English manor—warm and elegant with crystal chandeliers, rich walnut paneling, and masterworks of 18th- and 19th-century art. In fact, the detailed woodwork of the Carnelian Room is actually from an 18th-century mansion in England that was taken apart and reassembled on the 52nd floor of this San Francisco skyscraper. The spacious main dining room has long been a traditional Bay Area favorite for those special "nights on the town," but brides can also reserve all or part of the dining room for their own celebration. In addition, the Carnelian Room offers 11 view-filled banquet suites exclusively for private parties.
From the intimate Tamalpais to the expansive Belvedere, each room comes with sophisticated styling, outstanding service, and world-class cuisine. Some couples are so impressed with the setting that they opt for a sky-high ceremony in one of the rooms. One of the prettiest choices is a wedding in front of the Pacific Room’s picture windows, which capture a wraparound vista of the entire Bay. As the bride and groom declare their vows, the rays of the setting sun cast a golden patina over the romantic tableau. After the ceremony, move next door for a reception in the Belvedere Room, where the Transamerica Pyramid seems close enough to touch. For larger events, the Pacific and Belvedere can be combined into one spacious salon, accented by the nighttime vista of sparkling city lights spread out below.
Rehearsal dinners and showers require a cozier setting, and the Coit Room or the Golden Gate Room work beautifully. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the view: from the Golden Gate, the bridge stretches forth through wisps of fog, while the Coit showcases Alcatraz, surrounded by the sapphire-blue water. The event spaces at Carnelian Room are very flexible—if you’re planning a huge wedding bash or lavish company party, you can even book the entire 52nd floor for your privileged guests.
Complementing the dramatic scenery is one of the West’s finest wine cellars, housing some 40,000 bottles in all. Imaginative menus feature contemporary California cuisine, and the catering director can help you create custom wine and food pairings. Experienced staff are also on hand to coordinate all the details of your special celebration at this San Francisco classic.
