Camarillo Ranch

Description

In the pastoral community of Camarillo, a historic mansion with peaceful, park-like grounds offers a rare setting for all kinds of revelry. The turn-of-the-century estate’s romantic architecture and beautiful gardens make it a particular favorite for weddings. Originally one of the final Mexican land grants, Camarillo Ranch was successfully managed by Adolfo Camarillo from 1890 until 1958. Locals fondly referred to Adolfo as "the Last Spanish Don," and even named their city after him. Adolfo also had a sentimental side, and in 1892 built a three-story Queen Anne-style mansion for his wife Isabella. This splendid heritage structure and the ranch’s remaining 4.5 acres were acquired by the city in 1998, and in 2001 the restoration, which was based on old photographs and the lasting memories of Adolfo’s descendants, was complete. Today visitors tour the ranch’s original Mule Barn and White Horse Stables, stroll through the gardens, and explore a living museum expertly reconstructed inside the mansion. Your own friends and family can enjoy the same diversions when they attend special gatherings here.

If you come to wed at the Ranch, you may have a hard time choosing from among several pleasant sites. One possibility is the West Garden, a manicured lawn surrounded by palm trees, luxuriant foliage, and seasonal blooms. A vine-covered archway at the garden’s entrance makes an excellent focal point for a ceremony. So does a splashing, triple-tiered stone fountain in the center of the garden. On the opposite side of the mansion the commodious East Garden also features a fountain and a lush border of trees. You might also marry on the mansion’s wraparound front porch, whose ornate façade and carved balustrades form an elegant backdrop.

Follow the ceremony with a cocktail hour in one of the gardens, or invite your guests inside the mansion to explore its lovely antique décor. They’ll appreciate authentic details like the period kitchen supplies, the lavish dining room, and old-fashioned furnishings. A classic staircase in the foyer is a wonderful place to stage group photos, and an alcove opposite features stained glass and scrollwork—it’s a quaint site for an intimate ceremony. You’ll also love your very own Bride’s Room, a feminine and floral salon where you can put the finishing touches to your finery.

Couples usually host their reception on the spacious front lawn, beneath the scattered shade of magnificent mature trees. One specimen, a fabulous Moreton Bay Fig Tree, displays an intricate root system—symbolic of a knot well tied! The Front Lawn holds 400 or more guests, and takes on many different moods or themes—from a posh garden soirée to a festive hoedown—depending on how you have it decorated. The Ranch is also one of the few facilities in the area that allows couples to bring in their own caterer—even if it’s your Aunt Sally!

Camarillo Ranch is run by a nonprofit foundation, committed to preserving the Ranch’s historical traditions. Whether you envision a nostalgic Victorian-inspired fte or a casual barbecue surrounded by your friends and family, this facility provides a flexible, scenic venue for a landmark celebration.
