Description
Buerge Chapel is probably unlike any wedding ceremony space you’ve ever seen. Although only fifteen years old, it has an ageless quality, thanks to a rustic design and the natural materials used in its construction. The rough-sawn cedar exterior is plain and unadorned, drawing your attention to the unique bell tower and copper steeple over the slate roof. Inside, the walls, exposed beams and peaked ceiling are made of golden Douglas fir, bringing a honey-colored warmth to the space. Natural light flows through gabled stained-glass skylights and windows along both sides of the chapel. Rows of gleaming mahogany pews face the ‘pulpit,’ and can be moved for different seating configurations including outdoors. In place of the traditional altar, there’s a handsome river rock fireplace with a massive quartz-boulder mantel.While the Buerge Chapel can seat a group of 48 inside, it was cleverly designed so that one side of the building opens up to the adjacent Meditation Garden, making it an indoor/outdoor facility with room to seat another 180 guests on the garden’s grassy meadow. A massive Moreton Bay fig tree provides a lovely canopy, inviting guests to relax and enjoy themselves in the dappled sunlight. The beautiful grounds have been landscaped with a botanical theme inspired by the Holy Land: pomegranate, fig and olive trees, as well as reedy papyrus and silver-green aloe, thrive in the pleasant climate. Due to its close proximity to the ocean, Buerge Chapel is blessed with mild temperatures and gentle breezes throughout most of the year. Guests toast your ceremony with a glass of champagne, but during the reception you’ll be serving non-alcoholic beverages only (think near beer and sparkling cider).
The Buerge Chapel is part of the Aldersgate Retreat & Cultural Center, whose group and overnight facilities are housed next to the chapel in the oldest building in Pacific Palisades. Dating back to the early 1890s, “The Lodge,” as it’s known to its founders, offers its own brand of architectural interest with a Mission Revival exterior and Craftsman-style interior. Aldersgate’s historic Living Room, Dining Room and Library bring a congenial coziness to gatherings. Two garden-level meeting spaces have a contemporary simplicity that works well for almost any type of reception. The Center is also popular for meetings, family reunions and group retreats. Clean, minimalist accommodations let friends and family bunk together in small groups, encouraging reminiscences and shared confidences into the night. For intimate gatherings, the Aldersgate staff will even serve home-cooked meals. Whatever your reason for visiting, Aldersgate will welcome you with generous helpings of old-fashioned hospitality.

Fees & Deposits
A portion of the rental fee is required to reserve your date. The balance is due 30 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $1,000–10,000 depending on the space rented, the day and time of the event and guest count.
