Aquarium of the Pacific

Description

You’re exchanging vows in a place like no other: behind you slivers of light filter down through three stories of liquid turquoise, illuminating tall flowing sea plants and the iridescent sea creatures that are your audience. As your senses take in the enveloping hush and the gentle sway of the blue water, you feel at once serene and enlivened.

Such is the magical effect of the brilliant Blue Cavern, the ceremony site of choice at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. Receptions can be held in this area as well, or taken outdoors to the Harbor Terrace, an open-air courtyard with views of the marina and lighthouse. Here, the scent of salt water is carried on the breeze, as are the calls of exotic birds from nearby Lorikeet Forest, an outdoor aviary that mimics the lush coastal lowlands of Australia. Smaller parties, rehearsal dinners, and bridal showers often take place upstairs in Café Scuba or on its terrace overlooking the docks.

Larger events unfold in The Great Hall, a generous space that features multiple skylights and an enormous, suspended blue whale that presides majestically over the festivities. A state-of-the-art sound and video system can be used to project the Aquarium’s award-winning whale video, a display of your wedding footage, or any imagery of your choice. Automated screens, which cover the skylights at the touch of a button, project images around the room for all to see.

The space can be “designed” to create whatever mood suits you, from low-key to theatrical. Photos of one wedding show a reception scene bathed in dramatic blue and gold light, punctuated by dozens of golden stars projected onto the dance floor. This dazzling setup captured the essence of a starry night reflected on a dark blue sea.

Depending on the arrangements you’ve made with the museum, guests can wander among Aquarium exhibits and marvel at the wonders of the deep. Many remarkable habitats and ecosystems are represented here in engaging watery displays. Amber forests of giant swaying kelp beds, multi-hued tropical coral reefs, and translucent floating sea life grab your attention and ignite the imagination. One is instantly immersed in the enchantment of the sea.

Located adjacent to Rainbow Harbor in downtown Long Beach, the Aquarium is truly a one-of-a-kind event location with incredible marine views and spectacular exhibits. For ocean lovers or those just looking for a truly singular environment for their celebration, this is a magnificent place. Its sites and sounds will transport you and your guests to an underwater fantasy come to life.
