A Here Comes The Guide Wedding Venue ReviewRead More Show Less
If you’re in search of a romantic estate surrounded by vineyards for your upcoming special occasion, this gem of a venue set in the Livermore Valley Wine Country is an obvious choice.
Built in 1891 by Christopher Augustine Buckley, Sr., who was known as the “Blind Boss” of San Francisco politics (yes, he was actually blind), it’s part of the 100-acre landholding that once served as his family’s summer home. Today, in addition to the handsomely restored Main House, the property features a lovely Carriage House and Cottages, as well as gardens, apple orchards, vineyards, lawns, and scenic walks. Like the grand private residences of a far more opulent age, this site takes visitors back to an elegant era, one where time stops and memories that last are made.
Festivities can be staged indoors or out, weather permitting. Ceremonies are usually held at the graceful white gazebo or shaded tree path, both great locations for saying “I do”. The Victorian-era streetlamps, Carriage House, and Cottages all add a historic ambiance and create the perfect backdrop for your celebration. You can also exchange vows at the top of the main house stairs, where you’ll have a spectacular view of the Livermore Valley Wine Country.
Cocktails and appetizers may be served in a variety of locations, too—around the front lawn fountain, under the mature pink pepper trees, or inside one of the large parlors. The spacious U-shaped porch that wraps around most of the Victorian main home is also tailor-made for indulging in a glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres, while taking in the vineyard views and socializing with friends and family. For a fun option, yard games can be added to entertain your guests.
As for dining, the expansive front lawn with its large fountain and stunning vineyard views is a popular choice. Receptions inside the Main House are enhanced by charming period details, like the oak floors and wainscoting, fireplaces, pocket doors, and chandeliers. There’s even a secluded, oversized room downstairs that’s ideal for the bride and her wedding party.
No matter where you wander on the property, you’ll discover all kinds of photogenic spots to pause or pose. But what we find most appealing about Ravenswood are the many ways you can personalize the venue and its sprawling, visitor-friendly grounds.
