Services Offered

The Highline String Quartet is a young, fun, and insanely talented group of professional musicians aiming to shatter the stuffy perception of classical music. Their members have a variety of musical backgrounds, with degrees from institutions including Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Juilliard, and Manhattan School of Music, among others. With this pedigree of musicians, no song request or musical genre is out of reach. They can put together an almost unlimited combination of instrumentation and love the challenge of custom requests.

They perform both classical music as well as original arrangements of non-classical music by their very own in-house composer. But perhaps their strongest style? Popular music. They tell us, “We can play pop songs even better. Music is our life; your guests will love us. We’re equally comfortable playing Charlie Parker and Katy Perry as we are playing Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven.”

Contact Highline String Quartet with your event details and date. They recommend booking at least 6 months in advance; however if your event date is closer than that, don’t hesitate to inquire anyway! They have a large network of musicians and can play nearly anything with enough preparation time.

“Amazing playlist and incredibly talented musicians with professional management. They really care about their reputation and your satisfaction.”

“The music never stopped and was seamless between and during the ceremony and the cocktail hour. The music was perfect. It really sounded amazing. Everyone was talking about it.”

“I thought their price was extremely fair.”

“We received many compliments on them! Their ability to adapt to the mood and play the perfect music was impressive. And they were extremely likable and friendly—very accommodating!”

“We loved their selection of songs and we had some songs in mind that weren’t part of their list, and they still played them for us.”

“Ross’ professionalism right off the bat struck me in a great way. He was very attentive to emails and very accommodating to the songs we wanted. Customer service was great.”

“I wish we had more time to have had them play, we could not even put a dent in their extensive playlist!”

Our guests loved them. I wish I could hire them to come to my house every Saturday night.”

“They were easy to work with, which was a pleasure in the middle of crazy wedding planning.”

“I recommend them to anyone who is looking to elevate the class level at their wedding.”

Questions and Answers

Tell us about your company name.
Our name, Highline, is inspired by Chelsea's High Line Park in New York City. Highline String Quartet represents the merging of cultural preservation with contemporary society.
Why should someone hire you?
We're the best string quartet for weddings and special events in NYC, and we have the largest selection of songs to choose from. We're punctual, professional, and fun. Your guests will love our music.
What are the common misconceptions about your services?
Classical music doesn't need to be stuffy! We all have classical training, so we have good technique when it comes to playing our instruments, but we can also play modern pop music.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started?
I met many of my closest friends through music and opportunities created from playing the violin, and it was my desire to connect both the audience and musicians through playing music that inspired me to start Highline String Quartet.
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
Postmodern Jukebox. A lot of the musicians in that group came from Sleep No More, which is one of our favorite spots in the city and a venue that we've performed at many times.
What makes a wedding memorable for you?
The food =)
What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding?
Keep your vows brief, and if you have more than 100 guests, or your wedding is outside, make sure the officiant is miked! It's the worst when the guests in the back have no idea what is being said during the ceremony.
If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead?
If I wasn't playing music at weddings, I'd be helping manage other musicians, and finding them opportunities to play. So many amazing musicians graduate from conservatories and are excellent at playing their instruments, but weren't taught how to market themselves and they struggle to find work. Part of the reason I love managing Highline is the opportunity to find work for uber-talented musicians.
