8 Items That Probably Aren't On Your Wedding Registry, But Should Be!

It's interesting how once you're engaged you immediately feel the pressure to register for wedding gifts.

Yet when you're at Bed Bath & Beyond with scanner gun in hand, you may start wondering, "Will we really use this stuff?"

Perhaps the two of you have been living together for a while, so you have a lot of the basic household items already.

Or, it could be that you've looked at standard registry lists and felt like they include some things that aren't exactly real-world or practical (e.g. that specialty chips-and-dip tray or that flower-shaped deviled egg platter).

We hear you!

Here's our list of 8 practical items that probably aren't on your wedding registry, but should be!

1. Tool Kit

For everything from hanging photos to measuring drawers in order to buy drawer organizers (more on that below), you're going to need a household tool kit. Why not make it easy on the eyes like this one?

2. Drawer Organizers

You'll want to use all your kitchen utensils for your first dinner party, and it'll be a lot easier to pull that stuff out if each item has its place, right? Don't just point your registry gun at the silverware—grab the organizers too, and you'll have somewhere to conveniently store everything!

3. Label Maker

If you thought having a registry gun was fun, wait until you have a label maker in your hands! All those large tubs you stacked in the garage? Slap a label on them and they won't be full of mystery contents anymore.

4. Cleaning Products

Unless your new home comes with a new housecleaner (one can dream), you'll need the right cleaning products. Mrs. Meyers to the rescue! While she can't scrub the toilet for you, she can make sure you don't die from some horrible chemical "fragrance"—and she'll guarantee that what goes down the drain isn't going to eff with nature, too.

5. Cheap Wine Glasses

You need these so that you don't have to break out the crystal when your crazy-fun book club comes over. If one of the glasses happens to get knocked on the floor during a lively debate on Chapter 4, it's not the end of the world. (Just make sure to serve white wine.)

6. Family Calendar

Yes, we have apps on our phones that give us a daily heads-up, and work calendars that call our attention to meetings we can't miss, but who doesn't benefit from a little color-coded organization and the chance to see the big picture?

A chalkboard or whiteboard calendar can make important events and appointments more visible: Use it to ensure that you and your spouse are on the same page each month—and always be sure to pencil in a date night or two.

7. File Cabinet and Folders

You're setting up house. Or apartment. Or room above grandma's garage. Wherever you live, you're going to have paperwork to contend with: your new marriage license, birth certificates, social security cards, important receipts... You need to be able to find these documents and keep them intact, so be sure to register for a file cabinet or sturdy accordion file folder for safekeeping. #adulting

8. Extra Set of China

We're not talking the fancy fine china here, but your everyday affordable dinnerware. Because one of your plates or bowls WILL break. And nothing's going to irk you more than having an odd number of place settings. So register for one more set and you won't have to worry about it.
