Why We Like This Place

  • This fairy-tale venue has quite a history. Chester Thorne, one of the founders of the Port of Tacoma, had it built as a gift for his bride, Anna. In 1907 Thorne bought an Elizabethan Manor in England, then had it dismantled and shipped its bricks, oak paneling and staircase, and medieval stained glass to the United States, where it was put back together as a Tudor Gothic mansion in Washington State.
  • Each indoor and outdoor space has something special to offer. The grand staircase leads down to the Great Hall, which features a large sandstone fireplace, a high, sculpted ceiling and huge Tudor windows overlooking the fountain. The Ballroom is an elegant place to hold your reception. A ceremony in the sunken garden, surrounded by sculptures and an abundance of flowers, is beautiful in warm weather. Or say your vows on the immaculate lawns overlooking American Lake.
  • You’ll love spending your wedding night in Chester’s Bridal Suite, or using it as a staging area on the big day. This opulent room, built for the original bride of Thornewood Castle, boasts a marble fireplace, king-sized bed, Victorian lounging couches and Anna’s own ornate wall mirror. You’ll also find more modern luxuries—a spacious bathroom with a jetted Jacuzzi tub and your own kitchenette. Additional rooms and suites are available at a discounted rate for other guests staying overnight.
