Questions and Answers
What 3 words best describe your work?
Fun, irreverently romantic.
Why should someone hire you?
Working with me is fun and laid back. There is never any judgment from me and I encourage my couples to be themselves, relax and have fun which is how I get such great natural expressions of joy in my images. My top priority is making sure that you have an amazing experience (And I have the pictures to prove it!)
What are the common misconceptions about your services?
I feel like because digital cameras are so accessible these days (in our phones, iPads, etc.) people feel like if they don't take the photo themselves that they will "miss out" somehow. In reality, I am there to ensure that all of the guests can view images of the wedding while also being able to be in the moment and enjoying themselves instead of being hidden behind their devices and caught up in technology.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started?
I have always liked photography because I am by nature an observer. I can be in charge when I need to be but I am just as comfortable sitting back and observing those around me which is what photography allows me to do. I get to capture the things that others miss in the moment and save them to be rediscovered later.
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
I am very inspired by songs. Certain lyrics paint pictures in my mind that I want to create and capture on film. I love taking the story in a song and bringing it to life.
Tell us about a favorite, unusual or very interesting moment at a wedding:
I have the best couples so it is hard to choose! One couple had Elvis parachute into their wedding—that was a first! On the other end of the spectrum, I had a bride whose father was dying and it was so special to capture moments of them together at the wedding knowing that they would probably be some of the last images that they would have together.
What makes a wedding memorable for you?
When everyone is having a great time and truly enjoying the celebration of two families coming together. It is so great to see so much joy at the start of a couple's new journey together.
What have weddings taught you?
Weddings have taught me to be in the moment. Share your joy, be flexible, always bring a snack, and wear comfortable shoes :)
What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding?
I might be biased, but years from now the only thing you will be left with is the memories—and photography is the best way to preserve them forever. Find someone whose images you feel in your heart and make sure that you mesh well with their personality. You will be spending all day with them so you need to get along!
If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be?
The ability to freeze time—it all goes by so fast!
What are 3 words that describe your personality?
Flexible, fun, upbeat.
What's your favorite book/movie/work of art?
I just love books in general—real books from a library. I am a sucker for young adult literature and historical fiction. For movies I love Empire Records, Love Actually, and Lord of the Rings.
What's your favorite quote?
Everything's okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.
What's your favorite marriage advice?
Learn to communicate with each other. My husband and I developed a system where we take turns saying what we are upset about and then repeat back to the other what we heard. It is amazing how things can get lost in translation between what you said and what your partner heard!
Rock climbing, CrossFit, cooking, reading, collecting far too much tea.
If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead?
I went to school for interior design and architecture.
What’s your favorite way to wind down after a hard day?
A hot bath and a glass of wine or cuddling on the couch with my dogs.
Tell us about your pets, if you have any.
I have two rescued pitbulls who are bursting with personality. We thought they would mellow out in their old age. We were wrong.
What are some of your favorite places to eat—either everyday spots or special occasion splurges?
I love Taco Bell even though I know it is horrible. 606 West in Savannah, GA was my favorite until it shut down. The best meal I ever ate was on a small Greek island that we visited just to eat the food.
What can't you live without?
Curiosity, orange Rock Star, naps, and cake.
