We'd love it if you would mention that you found The Guest Ranch at Pacific Crest in Wrightwood on the Here Comes The Guide website.
Why We Like This Place
In the late 1920s, Hollywood’s playful elite were understandably drawn to Wrightwood, a sweet mountain town with brisk air, beautiful views and year-round outdoor diversions. Nestled in a valley between slopes blanketed with evergreen pines, it’s an easy 90-minute journey from Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley along California State Highway 2, (or simply “The Two,” for locals.)
The Guest Ranch at Pacific Crest in Wrightwood sits just off one of the prettiest stretches of “The Two,” on 300 acres of forested wilderness that encompasses lawns, private hiking trails, and pristine wildlife habitat. Its design is inspired by the traditional dude ranch, with a rustic, wood-sided main cabin overlooking rocky seasonal riverbeds, weathered stone and wood bridges, and trickling creeks that flow into sparkling ponds. Weddings held here can’t help but exude the same welcoming, down-home vibe of the town itself, which has retained its quiet alpine charm.
As guests arrive—they may be shuttled in from the nearby parking lot, or opt to take the short walk to the site—they’re greeted by a huge expanse of grass at the base of the main cabin. (The cabin is used as the ranch’s office, but has a cute area for bridal preparations, too.) The grass practically begs for lawn games, so many couples kick off the day with bocce ball, croquet, or horseshoes. Guests more interested in relaxing can simply mingle and chat, enjoying cocktails under the pines.
The centerpiece of the property is an extraordinary 250-year-old oak whose multiple trunks reach upward and outward, stretching toward the sky to create an enormous natural canopy and a most idyllic spot to say your vows. After the ceremony, guests cross a bridge over a small pond to a manicured lawn where the celebration continues. A large stage, just the right size for a bridal party or sweetheart table, overlooks the festivities. As twilight becomes evening, white globe lights placed throughout the trees, on bridges and along the fence line encircle the reception area in a twinkly glow. (Some couples have chosen to flip the sites, holding the ceremony on the stage and the reception under the oak; either setup works wonderfully.)
The expansive lawn area, which extends to the surrounding forest, is also where you’ll find the aptly named Woodpecker Bar. It’s located next to the pond in the shade of a towering pine tree with a trunk completely covered in woodpecker holes. The ranch provides your bar service, as well as a variety of flexible options for all budgets. There’s ample room on the green for a tent in the event of rain, though it’s unlikely you’d need it since weddings at the Ranch are held from May through October, when the weather is almost unfailingly sunny and mild.
In case you’re thinking this place sounds like a great destination for a weekend wedding, it is. They provide a preferred lodging list that includes adorable handpicked Wrightwood cabin rentals for your guests, plus some serious fun right on the property! Their zipline company’s Ziplines at Pacific Crest are not only located at the ranch, they offer a special wedding party discount package on rides during the wedding weekend.
But perhaps the loveliest thing about The Guest Ranch at Pacific Crest in Wrightwood is the people who work here. The employees have an enormous amount of pride in their venue, and it’s evident in the care and commitment they show each couple.
