Why We Like This Place

With millions of dollars’ worth of beautiful cars, the Petersen Automotive Museum has always been an amazing setting for glamorous celebrations. But, after its 2015 total transformation inside and out, it’s become a positively astounding place for weddings, as well as corporate parties, conferences, product launches, and more.

The gleaming new façade is an absolute show-stopper: An ingeniously designed series of undulating silver steel ribbons wrap around the building, symbolizing streams of air waves generated by a speeding car. As jaw-dropping as this is, though, it’s just an introduction to all the spectacular features you’ll find inside.

For weddings, the Rooftop Penthouse & Terrace is the most popular choice. Occupying the entire 4th floor, it’s an architecturally intriguing space: an all-glass “room” surrounded by a smooth, slate patio. You can have your ceremony on one side of the patio and host a seated reception on the other, using the glass-enclosed penthouse itself for cocktails and dancing. You’re free to choreograph your celebration any way you like, and no matter where you are in this thoroughly modern aerie you’ll be cooled by passing breezes and enjoy panoramic vistas of the Hollywood Hills and Century City, along with a birds-eye view of Miracle Mile. At night, Los Angeles becomes a sea of glittering lights, lending a romantic sparkle to your evening soirée.

More than 20 galleries on the other three floors are also available. The museum’s contemporary interior—white walls paired with stainless steel and glass accents—provides a neutral backdrop for highlighting both the cars on display and your event.

The 1st floor is dedicated to the ARTISTRY of cars, as inspiration and as a canvas for artistic expression. One of this floor’s key attributes is a 160-foot wall where you can project event-enhancing images such as a sunset, starry night sky, or personal photos. On the 2nd floor, the focus is INDUSTRY. Here you’ll see how a car is created from concept to completion … and have an opportunity to shift your event into high gear: For an additional fee, you can let your guests live out their race car driver fantasies in the interactive Forza Racing simulation room. The HISTORY of cars is explored on the 3rd floor, which is perhaps most notable for its famous film and celebrity cars, like the Batmobile, Laurel and Hardy’s Model T, and the 1966 Ford Thunderbird convertible from Thelma and Louise. Everyone will love the photo op section where you can have your picture taken posing in one of the cars from the museum’s fabulous collection!

When you book a floor, your reservation includes access to all the galleries on that floor. However, exhibits or activities on other floors can be added for an extra charge. Guided tours may also be arranged—even for the Vault, the lower-level “garage” where hidden automotive gems are stored.

The Petersen Automotive Museum is a remarkable place whether you’re hosting an event or just visiting. One of the perks of having your wedding here is a one-year membership for the newlyweds, including unlimited free admission, invitations to members-only special events and a 10% discount in the museum store. Whether you party in the Penthouse or on another floor, your guests will be thanking you for an unforgettable experience.
