Why We Like This Place

Loews Coronado Bay Resort, an island getaway just 20 minutes over the bridge from San Diego, may be one of the few places where you truly can have it all. Its serene locale balances beach-y relaxation with pampered elegance, while providing unsurpassed ocean and bay vistas. Presiding over its own 15-acre peninsula adjacent to Silver Strand State Beach, this beautiful venue offers a myriad of picturesque settings plus the personal touch that makes every couple feel like VIPs.

The main entrance, which looks out over a tableau of moored yachts, leads to a bright, open two-story lobby with a grand split staircase. On the second floor you’ll find Mistral, their much-lauded restaurant with views to die for. Perfect for a congenial rehearsal dinner, about the only thing here that’ll take your eye off the bay/bridge/skyline panorama is the food itself—sea-inspired cuisine that’s exquisitely prepared and presented.

Choices abound when it comes to a ceremony site, from the two-tiered, centerpiece Bay Terrace to the more intimate Sunset Terrace (both with huge, stunning water backdrops) or a fragrant herb garden. Want to dig your toes in the sand while you say “I do”? Then exchange vows right at the ocean’s edge.

Follow with cocktails and a reception on the Marina Terrace, as you drink in the scene of the boats sailing the waterways of the Coronado Cays. You can even up the fanfare with a dramatic entrance as newlyweds on a romantic gondola. And, if you like, opt for dining and dancing al fresco … or add a billowing tent.

If you prefer to celebrate indoors, there are two fabulous, formal venues. The expansive Commodore Ballroom includes a glass-walled foyer that brings the bay up close and personal. And the Constellation Ballroom features gorgeous crystal chandeliers that look like branch coral, and an outdoor terrace that takes in all the sights. (You can also book Mistral for a sophisticated dinner or bountiful brunch).

Now that you’ve tied the knot, you and many of your guests will no doubt want to spend a little (or a lot!) more time at Loews to savor the pleasures of this destination location. Indulge in some spa treatments, take a dip in the pool, play tennis or explore the town. It’s just a short walk to the beach, where friends and family can build sand castles, go for a swim or soak up the sun … and then linger over a nice glass of wine in one of the Loews lounges.

The accommodations are wonderfully plush, but what really impresses is how warm and helpful the staff is at every turn. From planning your event to overseeing all the details (including custom menus and cake design), the experienced team will make sure your entire stay goes smoothly so you can actually relax. And that may be the best wedding gift of all.
