Questions and Answers
What 3 words best describe your work?
Elegant. Classic. Unique.
Tell us about your company name.
Simply Designed was born from all the couples that I worked with over the years as a freelance designer that kept looking for simple, clean, elegant designs and didn't want to have to worry about the complicated world of print lingo or want to have to learn about design. They simply wanted to have fun designing their invitations. Simply Designed was born.
Why should someone hire you?
I'm very easy to work with, know that this process is about you and what your dream and vision is for your wedding or event. I want you to walk away with a piece that you are beyond happy with and will introduce your guests to a hint of what your day/event will be all about.
What are the common misconceptions about your services?
That I have set and standard prices. Since what I do is custom work, what works for one couple doesn't always work for another couple. Every piece that I design is customized to you and who you are. With that said, I also have a collection that I release every year that works with any budget or if you don't really have the time or want for custom designs.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started?
I have my degree as a graphic designer and started my career in corporate design departments, production houses and design firms. After being asked continually to design friends and family wedding invitations, and word spread by mouth, I finally decided to build my company, and it has grown to what it is now, and I couldn't be more excited.
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
My biggest influences are nature and museums. I love to travel and I think it refreshes you and allows you to immerse yourself into something, which for me helps with creativity.
What makes a wedding memorable for you? It's in the details.
It is the moment when the groom see his bride for the first time. It is the first dance—the way they look at each other. And definitely a great DJ or band. :)
What have weddings taught you?
To let go. I know that sounds strange, but it has taught me that you have to just let go and enjoy the moment, you only get that day once and instead of worrying about all the details, you should just let go and enjoy.
What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding?
Listen to what they want. This day is about you and your soon to be spouse. This isn't about anyone else. Do what you want, be who you are and be as creative as you want. And remember to eat!!!
If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be?
Mind Reading :)
What are 3 words that describe your personality?
Laid back, fun, patient.
What's your favorite book/movie/work of art?
Pride and Prejudice—who doesn't like Mr. Darcy :) Movie: Breakfast at Tiffany's. Old soul art...anything from Ansel Adams collection.
What's your favorite quote?
"Live life with all you have and you will never regret a moment"—my grandfather.
What's your favorite marriage advice?
Go to bed angry, sleep on it, and then talk.
I'm a big outdoors fan: you can typically find me hiking, backpacking, running, or just getting lost in the back country of a national park when I have the free time. I also paint and use photography as an escape.
If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead?
I think I would be a pilot. :)
What’s your favorite way to wind down after a hard day?
A good book and some Frank Sinatra in the background... Most likely while taking a bubble bath.
Tell us about your pets, if you have any.
I have two fur monsters (kitties) Jake and Abby. Both are rescues, and I think they rescued me.
What are some of your favorite places to eat—either everyday spots or special occasion splurges?
At home or my grandfather's kitchen, when he was still cooking. I come from a family where food and cooking was the center core of connecting and relaxing. I love to cook for family and friends—the more the merrier.
