We'd love it if you would mention that you found Mayacama on the Here Comes The Guide website.
Why We Like This Place
Your Mayacama experience begins the moment you pass through the gated entry to the exclusive private residence resort where the golf club resides. From here it's a leisurely two-mile drive to your destination—just enough time to leave the rest of the world behind, soak up the serenity of a native landscape dotted with discreet luxury villas, and prepare to be wowed when you arrive at the clubhouse.
The sprawling Mediterranean-style compound at the top of the hill is truly special. Fronted by a circular drive, it boasts a dramatic domed entryway with arched iron gates that open into the sublime Courtyard Terrace. Shady, colonnaded walkways hug the perimeter and a soaring Mission-style tower rises like a citadel against the back wall. This bold, al fresco locale offers an inviting welcome for your guests and will later serve as the setting for your dinner reception.
But first, there's the all-important wedding ceremony and Mayacama has a wonderful spot for it: a sunkissed patio extending out from the hillside just below the clubhouse. While the couple says "I do," guests enjoy an added pleasure—a sweeping view of the rolling fairways, forested hills, and deep blue lake of the Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course spread out before them. After vows are exchanged, everyone walks to the back of the patio and steps through a pair of ivy-framed wooden doors that mark the entrance to "The Cave." Built into the hill, this elegant underground wine cellar is a cool, stone-floored space that's perfect for champagne toasts. A staircase inside the cellar leads back up to the clubhouse where the festivities continue.
Guests gather at the rear of the clubhouse for a cocktail reception on the multi-tiered Back Terrace. Breathtaking, 270-degree panoramic views include manicured fairways in front, the Mayacama foothills to the left and the occasional hawk circling above. It would be tempting to spend your entire celebration right here, but then you'd miss dining in that romantic Courtyard Terrace you saw upon arrival.
And romantic it is: Candlelit tables are arranged amidst ancient olive trees beneath the night sky, and more candles flicker along the edge of the central fountain. While your family and friends are reveling in this heavenly place, they'll feast on inspired California cuisine and local wines. Mayacama's seasonal and customizable menus center on fresh organic fruits and vegetables, locally raised meats and poultry, and fresh herbs from their own gardens. Sonoma's bounty of artisan cheeses and olive oils are key ingredients, too.
When dessert is finished, dancing commences in the adjoining Living Room, where a high, crossbeam ceiling, lots of glass and comfy sofas near a fireplace make this space both open and intimate. And since it also flanks the Back Terrace, guests can easily step outside, get cozy next to the blazing fire pit, and savor a cognac under the stars.
Tally up the commanding vistas, striking architecture, impeccable décor—and some pre-wedding pampering at their top-of-the-line spa—and it's obvious to anyone why Mayacama is a winning choice for a memorable event.
