Why We Like This Place

Suppose you wanted a place for your event that had a genuine "country club" ambiance, but you only had a limited budget. Where could you go? Well, you might want to take a little drive over to the Highlands Country Club.

Embraced by a sloping green sweep of lawn, and overlooking tennis courts and crystal-blue swimming pools, this architectural phoenix has literally risen from its ashes (the original club was destroyed in the 1991 Berkeley-Oakland Hills fire). The community surrounding the club has also been rebuilt, and few, if any, traces of the previous devastation are visible from the club itself.

What is visible from the club's Fireside Room is a panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay and adjacent communities that is so spectacular it almost makes additional decoration redundant. Hardwood floors, a neutral color scheme and large windows showcase the magnificent vista, while the soaring stone fireplace and antique brass chandeliers add a touch of friendly rusticity. There's even a small balcony that affords you the luxury of watching the sun set over the Golden Gate or the fog pour over the Berkeley hills as you sip champagne and enjoy the breeze. In front of the clubhouse, a sunny patio surrounded by verdant lawns and small trees is available for outdoor receptions. Although it's high up on a hill, this country club is fresh, unpretentious and quite down-to-earth.

CEREMONY CAPACITY: The Fireside Room, patio and gazebo each accommodate up to 100 guests, maximum.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: The Fireside Room and patio combined hold up to 100 guests.

MEETING CAPACITY: The club accommodates 100 guests, maximum.

Cost: Prices, Deposits, Etc.

The rental fee is $1,200 and includes use of the Fireside Room, deck and patio areas for 4 hours; extra hours can be arranged. To secure your date, all of the nonrefundable rental fee plus a refundable $1,200 security deposit are required.
