Questions and Answers
What 3 words best describe your work?
Inspirational. Passionate. DETAILED.
Tell us about your company name.
It took me a good three months to come up with the perfect name for my business. I knew I wanted it to start with the letter "A" and was leaning toward the Latin root for love, "am." One day I was looking through a magazine and saw an ad for Alizé, an alcoholic beverage, and loved the way it sounded. I then combined the two concepts and came up with Amazáe!
Why should someone hire you?
I absolutely love what I do, and with that comes a passion for not only the business and the industry, but for each individual client—their uniqueness and what I can learn from them. My team and I have a very strong work ethic and are completely dedicated to what we do. I can promise there is no cookie-cutter design work being done here. Every wedding is a personal experience created specifically for each client.
What are the common misconceptions about your services?
Designing and coordinating weddings requires more hours of work than most other vendors, so cost to hours is much less than other vendors. We also know the value of our work, knowledge and experience. What we create and bring to the table cannot be replaced.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started?
I started out doing project management for a Silicon Valley corporation and was planning to build an IT solution for event planning. I decided I should educate myself a bit more before moving forward with the project, so I took the hardest wedding certification course, ACPWC, for wedding and event coordination. During the course I became totally hooked and discovered how connected to the industry I already was, by helping family plan weddings and events. And the next thing you know...I was getting my business license and planning away!
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
My clients are constantly an inspiration for me; what they love, how they express themselves. I am also inspired by my surroundings, every day life, from clothing I see in a storefront to the architecture of a building. They all play a role in taking events to the next level.
Tell us about a favorite, unusual or very interesting moment at a wedding:
Every event has something very special. For example, recently I had the privilege of working with a fantastic couple. The bride and her father were planning a special father-daughter dance that they not only kept a secret from their families, but from me as well. We all knew there was a dance, but knew nothing of what the planned dance was—and let me tell you, I am so glad they didn't tell us! The dance was creative, fun, memorable, and emotional. It was a play on the story of their lives together and their relationship as father and daughter. From the anticipation of the bride's birth to the sweet hopefulness of a happy future as a married woman, sung by the one and only Kermit the Frog. That was one of the most touching moments I've experienced at a wedding.
What makes a wedding memorable for you?
The families are absolutely, without a doubt, what make weddings memorable for me. How connected they are, how they treat each one another, and how they welcome the other into their lives.
What have weddings taught you?
Weddings can bring out the worst, but more often, they bring out the best in people. Weddings have taught me how to manage it all, regardless. We are our rocks for our clients and the folks involved in the planning process.
What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding?
There has to be a balance of not spending beyond your means but not compromising the overall experience. Be realistic and set priorities…and the rest we will make fall into place.
If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be?
I would love to control the weather!
What are 3 words that describe your personality?
Honest, fun, and a team player.
What's your favorite book/movie/work of art?
My favorite childhood movie is The Goonies. There is too much beautiful art and too many amazing books now to say I have a favorite.
What's your favorite quote?
"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, or touched... but felt in the heart" —Helen Keller
What is your favorite marriage advice?
Never go to bed mad.
Playing with my children, salsa dancing, and traveling.
If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be instead?
I would probably still be an IT Project Manager.
What's your favorite way to wind down after a hard day?
Being a mom.
What are some of your favorite places to eat—either everyday spots or special occasion splurges?
There are way too many great places to choose just one. I typically lean towards Asian or Italian cuisine.
