Commercial party boats abound in tony Newport Harbor, but there’s only one 120-foot, family-owned luxury yacht in these waters available for private charter. Her name, Icon, says it all, for she is a symbol of ocean-going splendor. This divine floating special event venue was also voted the #2 “Best Wedding Venue” in Orange County by the O.C. Hotlist for 2014.

Owned by the Goodin family, the clan behind Charter Yachts of Newport Beach, this custom-built craft features an expansive, canopy-covered upper deck that transforms into an intimate setting for a wedding ceremony and reception. While you prepare in one of her sumptuous staterooms, guests mingle in the main salon and enjoy views of the waterfront as they stroll along the gleaming decks. With exotic woods, granite counters, a marble fireplace, Baccarat crystal fixtures and European furnishings in brocade, silk and velvet, this posh vessel may have everyone on board convinced they’ve returned to yachting’s Golden Age. However, a futuristic glass mural spanning an entire wall and an ebony Kurzweil Baby Grand piano will remind them they’ve enjoyed safe passage into the 21st century.

Were it not for the changing panorama, you’ll hardly realize Icon has left her mooring when she begins cruising through the harbor after all are on board. Throughout your ceremony and reception, you’re guaranteed smooth sailing, given the vessel’s size, stability and experienced captain. A little imagination goes a long way here; one bride chose to release doves off the bow, another opted for a dashing nautical color scheme of navy, white and gold.

If the scenic pleasures of Newport Harbor beckon, yet you’d like to tie the knot without leaving land, Charter Yachts of Newport Beach offers the Pacific Coast Yacht Club as an alternative to a wedding at sea. In this newly renovated facility fronting the dock where Icon is moored, a cobblestone patio accented with rose topiaries, cypress sentries and a gurgling fountain is blessed with a 180-degree view of the picturesque bay. Say your vows here, under an Italian-style gazebo supported by columns entwined with garlands.

The Yacht Club provides a comfortable bride’s room for pre-ceremony preparation, but grooms are asked to get ready off-site. Following the ceremony, most couples hold their reception in the Tuscan-themed upstairs dining room, with panoramic views stretching to Lido Isle, the harbor’s turning basin and beyond.

Whether you choose to set sail or remain landlocked for your grand event, you can rely on your professional planner at Charter Yachts of Newport Beach to handle everything, from timing and color coordination to flowers, photography and music.Your guests will also enjoy exceptional cuisine prepared by renowned chef David Coplin, whose reputation for creative and unique recipes has been earned catering events such as the Academy Awards and American Idol. He’s passionate about gourmet food presentation, and personally meets with and offers food tastings for every client. His goal is to create a sensational menu for you that leaves everyone saying, “That was the most amazing food I have ever had.”

50% of the rental fee is required to reserve your date, and the balance is due 14 days prior to the event. The rental fee ranges $1,500–4,950 depending on the date and time of your event. Meals range $18–40/person. Tax, alcohol and an 18% service charge are additional. Nominal docking and permit fees are extra.
