It must nice to be a fashion icon. As Sex and the City’s fictional wedding coordinator definitively told an engaged Charlotte: “I have just 2 words for you—Vera Wang.”

Walk into a California bridal salon and you expect a sea of white (or ivory, or cream). More and more, though, we’re seeing splashes of bright color on the typical white gown—and even more dramatic dresses that are far from pale.

Nan Winters Cool Stuff is…well, cool. We’ve been “Nan fans” ever since she was matching brides up with vintage finery at Shadows boutique in San Anselmo. Now this fashion maven has opened her own dream shop. Besides dresses, there is original designer jewelry, lingerie and other treasures to try.

When couture bridal fashion meets fantasy romance, the result is bound to be exceptional—and it is! One of Here Comes The Guide’s fave bridal designers, Los Angeles-based Kirstie Kelly, teamed up with Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings to create a line of wedding gowns fit for a princess—or a bride who just wants to feel like one.

Not only am I a Here Comes the Guide staffer, but I also moonlight as a wedding coordinator, and recently took on a VIP client—my sister, Sandra. Our recent mission? To boldly begin the search for “the dress.”
