Everyone’s talking about InStyle Weddings’ recent report of celebrity-driven wedding trends…but I have my own opinion!

As you may have already realized, finding a flattering wedding hairstyle is almost always easier said than done. My own wedding hair search involved me spending hours at my salon having my hair twisted, tugged, and curled into countless “almost perfect but not quite” styles. I’m not sure, but I may have even seen my stylist wield a crimping iron at one point (considering it was 2002, this was more than a little disturbing!). By the end of the day, both my hair and nerves were a bit fried. Sure, I found a style, but I also had to spend the next few days “resting” my hair and deep conditioning with pricey products.

Some years the wedding fashion trends tell us to add colored ribbons to our white gowns, and other years big flowers or poufs are all the rage. The 2008 wedding dress runway buzz is all about the Return of the Sleeve. For years, strapless wedding gowns have ruled the wedding aisle. And why not? They’re sexy, chic and glam, and are the perfect excuse to accessorize with faux fur or wispy shawls

The New York Times cited a study of engaged women in which half of the brides-to-be were already of normal weight. “Dr. Neighbors found that 91 percent of the women were worried about their weight, reporting that they wanted to lose weight or were actively trying to prevent weight gain. By comparison, national data show that about 62 percent of similarly aged women have the same concerns.”

So I ask: Are the men out there actually spending $5,000 to $15,000 on planning the perfect proposal? Is this something we’re doing now?

It must nice to be a fashion icon. As Sex and the City’s fictional wedding coordinator definitively told an engaged Charlotte: “I have just 2 words for you—Vera Wang.”

At a holiday networking event in San Francisco last night, I got the chance to to catch up one of our Certified By The Guide floral designers, Laurel Winzler of Laurel Designs. She was recently cited in San Francisco Magazine’s December article, “101 Shortcuts to Elegant, No-Stress Entertaining”, on stands now. Since I had her attention (and I didn’t have a copy of the magazine with me!), I had to ask: What IS hot in the entertaining world this holiday season?
