As the Location Scout for Here Comes The Guide, I’m always on the lookout for really intriguing or unusual places where brides or meeting planners can hold their weddings or events. Going to the free concerts at Rancho La Patera & Stow House seems like a wonderful way to check out an event site. If you make it to any of these concerts at the Ranch or have visited this property, let us know what you think of the place. Should we include them in our next book or on our website?

The Lark Creek Inn has charmed me every time I’ve been to the restaurant, but now there’s another excuse to go: half-price bottles of wine for the whole month of July. If you haven’t thought about your rehearsal dinner location yet, try out a meal this month at this sweet old Victorian in a redwood grove.

I’ve never been to an Indian wedding, but I’ve seen pictures of them and they are a feast for the eyes. There are so many options in the Napa and Sonoma Wine Country, both for wedding locations and for lovely places to stay. We decided, just this time, to forgo the spa/resort route (though, I love me some spa!) and instead chose the super-cozy and yet boutiquey Cottages of Napa Valley.

You and your fiancé have spent practically every free Saturday since he popped the question touring possible wedding locations. In your determination to find “the perfect place,” you’ve braved traffic jams, crazy drivers, exorbitant gas prices, and sticker shock. On the first outing, he was a real trooper, agreeing wholeheartedly when you nixed the place that didn’t offer linens in periwinkle.

We all love “new,” right? New cars, new clothes, new guy (Ok, you’re probably past that one.) When my friends and Morris dancing teammates, Meg and Kevin, announced their engagement, I immediately sent them a copy of Here Comes The Guide to help them plan their wedding. That’s where Meg found the Montclair Women’s Cultural Arts Club in Oakland, the site they chose for their reception. Her daughter clinched the choice saying, “Lots of places are really elegant, but this one makes me happy.”
