Jenna’s Dream Honeymoon: Hotel Del Coronado, San Diego

by Jenna Miller, Vendor Sales Manager

For me, the word “honeymoon” is synonymous with a tropical beach getaway. Give me sunshine, palm trees, and fruity cocktails with colorful umbrellas, and I’ll be in 7th heaven with my hubby. But the best part? Us California girls don’t have to travel all the way to Fiji, Barbados, or Hawaii to experience this type of beachy bliss. One of the best honeymoon locations I’ve come across is right here in the Golden State, just outside of sunny San Diego.

Right across the Coronado bridge is one of the most luxurious island resorts I’ve ever seen—the historic Hotel del Coronado. This immense, Victorian-style hotel, capped with its iconic red turrets and white balconies, spans Coronado Central Beach. You can literally stand with one foot on hotel grounds and the other on the sand. Look up and you’re greeted by a panoramic view of the sparkling Pacific Ocean. You really can’t beat The Del’s incredible beachfront location. And did I mention it’s pretty much 70 degrees and sunny year-round?

Besides the sweeping views and gorgeous architecture, The Del offers an endless amount of recreation—from the adventurous, to the romantic, to the downright relaxing. You may want to start your day with an early morning yoga session on the beach or a workout in The Del’s state-of-the-art fitness center. Fuel up with a fabulous brunch of made-to-order omelets and fresh-baked waffles in the regal Crown Room. Then take a dip in the hotel’s vanishing edge pool or ride the waves with a surfing lesson; or if you prefer to stay dry, hit up tee time at the Coronado Golf Course, rent bikes, or do some shopping at the hotel’s various boutiques.

But perhaps the most appealing amenity for me is the Spa at The Del. I would drag my hubby in for the romantic That’s S’moré Package—a side-by-side Swedish massage followed by a private bonfire on the beach, where we’d enjoy s’mores and champagne while watching the sunset over the Pacific. You can’t get much more romantic than that!

The Del offers everything I would want in a dream honeymoon: Fabulous restaurants, luxurious digs, ocean views, indulgent spa treatments… There’s no reason to leave the Hotel Del Coronado’s grounds during your romantic getaway—and why would you want to?!
