Fashion-forward Wedding Food Trends

Does it seem like everyone you know these days is a self-confessed Foodie? Satisfying the culinary expectations of the modern wedding guest can be little bit intimidating. But we have some good news: Current trends in wedding cuisine emphasize the local and the interesting (as opposed to the foreign and the fancy.)

We recently spoke with Robb Rybicki, Director of Catering for Eaglewood Resort and Spa in Itasca, Ill., who gave us the low-down on what’s hot for special occasion food and drink:

    • Late-night Snacks: Today’s after-party is becoming as de rigeur as the traditional Rehearsal Dinner! Serving up tasty munchies after the majority of the guests disperse keeps the cool crowd going strong into the midnight hours. Mini Chicago Hot Dogs
    • Bride In N Out Burgers

    • Local Craft Beers: Wine pairings? So 2014. Says Rybicki,  “Wedding couples are changing up the standard drink packages by adding craft beers that are from local breweries, to make the night uniquely memorable for their guests.”Karl Strauss Beer Wedding Toast

    • Food Trucks: Once the denizen of the metro lunch hour, gourmet food trucks are now adding fun and spice to wedding receptions. Food trucks come in a multitude of ethnic flavors and fusion combos (think sushi burritos!), so you’re sure to find a culinary style that meshes with your vision. Bonus: Cost effective, and unexpected.Food Truck Bride Groom

Robb also points out that celebrations continue to focus on pre-wedding mini-events, such as golf-themed get-togethers for the guys, and spa weekends for the bride and her entourage. “At Eaglewood and other fine resorts, these extra-special gatherings elevate the entire destination wedding experience.” We couldn’t agree more—we’re always in favor of maximum opportunities for playing games and pampering…especially when paired with a micro-brew and deconstructed s’mores.
