It’s your wedding day: are you ready for your close-up?
If you’re having doubts, you’re not alone. That’s why a professional makeup artist has become an essential part of the modern bride’s entourage. Yet a quiet revolution is changing the way brides prep for the cameras: airbrush makeup. Once the secret of Hollywood stars, this groundbreaking technique is now available to real-life brides. Laura Weintraub is among a select group of California makeup artists who have special training in the “art of airbrush.” An experienced wedding photographer, Weintraub is a fan of anything that will help her get the perfect picture. After attending Joe Blasco’s Hollywood Makeup School, she went on to master airbrush makeup techniques under the tutelage of Dina Ousley. Ousley, a former actress, is founder of Dinair, the company that pioneered the airbrush makeup technology and application so favored by Hollywood’s elite. Artists like Weintraub are determined to give average Janes access to the same beauty enhancements as Halle, J-Lo and Julia.
What makes airbrush so popular? “It provides a flawless, natural finish which lasts for hours and requires virtually no touch-ups,” explains Laura. The key equipment is a special air compressor, which sprays a gentle mist of makeup microdots on the skin. Amazingly, the smooth patina provides better coverage than standard foundation, without clogged pores or caking. It sets instantly, so there are no blending sponges, powder puffs or soiled fingers, which means a more hygienic process. What’s more, the color won’t rub off on clothes. It’s also water-resistant, so it will survive tears and perspiration. One more insider tip:airbrush makeup isn’t just for the face—apply it to the body to hide tan lines or give you an insta-tan!
Come along with Here Comes The Guide, as we peek behind the scenes and watch Laura Weintraub take Amie Morck from plain to pretty in a few easy steps.
PLAIN AND CLEAN
As with any makeup application, Laura makes sure Amie begins with a freshly washed face. Laura evaluates Amie’s skin for blemishes, scars or discolorations.
Laura then corrects imperfections with custom-blended color, applied in a controlled, direct spray from the airbrush compressor. Next, she sprays on the foundation in a fine, weightless mist that allows the skin to breathe.
CHEEK COLOR APPLICATION
Laura sprays Amie’s cheeks with blush blended with a hint of base, creating a natural-looking glow.
EYEBROW STENCIL AND EYEBROWS
Using a Dinair eyebrow stencil and the compressor, Laura adds definition to Amie’s eyebrows.
Amie’s eyelids were already sprayed with foundation, so now Laura takes a hands-on approach to the delicate job of applying
Next Laura carefully glues on individual lashes to bring out Amie’s inner starlet!
After spraying Amie’s lips with color over a lip stencil, Laura adds a touch of gloss.
