We know you’re thinking about DIY-ing a few elements of your wedding—but after watching this sneak peek of WETV’s Amazing Wedding Cakes Season 3, we recommend you stick with just designing your own place cards. Four talented cakeries conquer tiers and tears in their efforts to produce the finest confectionary masterpieces that will take center stage at wedding receptions all over the country. From a Chicago wedding cake designed to look like stacked tea cups to a Southern California wedding cake with koi fish sculpted out of frosting, if you can dream it, these cake designers can make it. (After some dramatic trial and error, of course!).
So how to ditch the DIY plan and still stick to your budget? Orange County wedding cake artist Christopher Garren says that brides on a budget should opt for a simple cake with just one or two “statement pieces” instead of a lot of detail work—which is where your wedding dollars add up. Using sharp, contrasting colors can be very eye-catching, too, he explains. Georgia from Chicago bakery CakeGirls recommends discussing your budget at the beginning of your first consultation, so your cake designer can guide you appropriately.
Want to bake something special at home for your bridal shower or engagement party? Cake Alchemy, known for lighting up New York wedding receptions with their unique wedding cakes, says there are 3 keys to success: temperature, timing and texture. This season of Amazing Wedding Cakes will be sure to give you plenty of ideas and wedding inspiration!
