Woodland Hills Country Club

Why We Like This Place

In the early 1920s, Victor Girard saw the hills and open land of the west San Fernando Valley and decided to develop his dream city there. A showman to the core, he wanted something extra to lure homeowners so he imported 120,000 trees and built a golf course and clubhouse. Although his grand city vision was never realized, the trees and clubhouse remain: The former shade the streets of what is now Woodland Hills, and the latter has evolved into the Woodland Hills Country Club, a beautiful wedding site offering some of the best panoramic views in the valley.

Drive through the iron gates and up the long curved road and you’ll immediately see Girard’s legacy: towering, mature Eucalyptus trees giving way to tantalizing peeks of the golf course. At the top of the hill sits the clubhouse (rebuilt three times since the 1920s) with a prominent porte-cochère covered in climbing vines and surrounded by flowering shrubs. There are flowers and greenery everywhere, and since all plants throughout the property are replaced seasonally, there will always be fresh, colorful blooms to greet you.

Directly across from the clubhouse is the peaceful Ceremony Garden. Overlooking the 18th green, its large lawn has a white gazebo as well as a circular patio where you can place your own altar or chuppah. A grove of oak, pepper and eucalyptus trees runs the length of the garden, providing shade from the afternoon sun. If you’d like, you can hold an al fresco cocktail reception for 300 people here, or move inside to one of several venues.

The Main Lobby and adjoining Trophy Hall, displaying 80 years of the club’s history, can be staged with chairs and couches for a cocktail lounge effect. Afterwards, your guests will be welcomed to the Terrace Ballroom for your main reception. This spacious banquet area has a built-in dance floor and raised stage for your band, DJ or cake table display. Decorated in muted, neutral tones, the room boasts a marble-topped bar where friends and family can mingle for conversation, as well as a small back patio with red roses, overlooking the putting green and surrounding hills.

If you’re planning a more intimate affair, the Sunset Room on the opposite side of the clubhouse is a little gem. A warmly inviting spot with a wall of natural stone and floor-to-ceiling windows, it’s perfect for a rehearsal dinner. It can also be used as a cocktail and/or dance area for the larger, adjacent Oak Room, replete with oak-beamed ceilings and breathtaking views. Just outside is the wraparound Back Terrace, a very popular location for enjoying those fabulous vistas that extend all the way to Warner Center.

Myriad photo opportunities take advantage of the views and scenic backdrops from the terraces, or you can arrange to pose beside picturesque sites on the fairways, like a stone bridge, waterfall or pond floated with lily pads.

There are many options available in planning your celebration here, and the staff takes pride in helping each bride determine her ideal wedding—and stay within her budget. After all, this was a location built on dreams.
