Why We Like This Place
The delightfully imaginative Victoria Gardens Cultural Center has a motto: “Where Dreams Come to Life.” But it could just as easily be “Let’s Put on a Show,” because that’s what they do so dynamically at this outstanding venue.
The center, known primarily for its Lewis Family Playhouse, one of regional theater’s rising stars, is a multifaceted performing arts mecca that includes several unique indoor and outdoor sites for special events. Here, they believe that every wedding is a story, and they love having the same creative wizards who put the magic into dozens of critically acclaimed theatrical productions each year help you tell yours.
The Cultural Center, comprised of the playhouse and Celebration Hall, is an architecturally colorful treat. The curved buildings, sporting hues of pink, desert rose and verdigris, form a semicircle around the Imagination Courtyard, a large, cobble-stoned space that lends itself to outdoor gatherings. Ringed by tall, feathery palms, it’s open on one side to the Victoria Gardens shopping and entertainment plaza (a big plus during the holidays when the majestic Christmas tree is visible from here), and anchored on the other by the center’s soaring, arched glass entrance. Topped with a backlit, stylized marquee, this façade makes a picturesque backdrop for an al fresco ceremony.
Many brides opt to have cocktails (or even dinner) out here and exchange vows in the more private Lobby, a whimsical stage set of the perfect little street, complete with storefronts and trees—it’s like having your very own village! On one end of “town,” there’s a staircase to use either as a riser for your altar, or as a starting point for your dramatic descent to the main floor where you can say “I do,” bathed in light filtering through that gorgeous glass entrance behind you.
The center gives you enormous flexibility in choosing how you want to use its spaces, but it’s the way the staff works with a team of art and entertainment professionals to turn your vision into reality that makes this place so special. Want to add an animal to the proceedings? No problem.
They’ve wrangled camels, horses, an elephant—even albino peacocks—for various events. Unconventional entertainment? They can find everything from acrobats to belly dancers to gospel choirs. And with the help of some of L.A.‘s most talented set decorators, lighting designers, seamstresses and hair/makeup artists, they will produce an affair to remember.
Nowhere is their creativity more rewarded than in the Celebration Hall Ballroom. A wonderful blank canvas, this huge space has polished concrete floors, cream-colored walls, windows on two sides and an adjacent Patio hugged by shrubbery. In it’s natural state, it’s a bright and airy spot for dinner and dancing with an indoor/outdoor flow. But say the word and they can transform it, with elegant draping and dramatic lighting, into a romantic oasis, a sophisticated supper club or an exotic foreign locale. There’s no charge for either the consultation or design, making this an incredible value. Plus, they do so much of the work in-house that you can also save on flowers, catering, and more for a one-of-a-kind event that’s sure to win rave reviews.

A refundable $1,000 deposit is required to reserve your date, and the balance is due 30 days prior to the event. The rental fee ranges $1,650–3,800 depending on the duration of the event, guest count and custom décor options. Meals range $30–60/person. Tax and alcohol are additional.
