Why We Like This Place
After a lot of thought you’ve finally decided on the kind of venue you want for your wedding: It has to be romantic and much cozier than a hotel ballroom. You’d also like it to have gorgeous ocean views and a garden for your ceremony. And, most important of all, the food has to be so amazing that people will be raving about it long after your event is over. Well, at Verandas Beach House you’ll be able to check all those things off your list.
New York Food Company, the caterers that operate La Venta Inn, have really knocked themselves out at Verandas. This two-story facility and garden has been designed specifically for events, but the architects have also given it the breezy sophistication of an upscale beach house. Details like the intricate wrought-iron gate at the entrance and planter boxes filled with razzleberry, ivy and trailing geranium add to the residential feeling.
Once through the gate, you’re in a secluded garden enclosed by a serpentine stucco wall, largely hidden by a profusion of trees and other foliage. As you walk across the expansive lawn, lots of lovely things will catch your eye, among them arched white trellises covered in flowering vines, and a collection of pots and window boxes spilling over with blooms. But the garden’s focal point is its beautiful water feature. Three waterfalls flow into a koi-filled pond, encircled by a lushly planted rock border. Together, all of these elements create a serene spot for a ceremony, cocktail reception or photo opportunity.
From the garden a wide slate-clad stairway leads to Verandas’ second floor. Double French doors open into the foyer, a light-filled space with sage-green walls and contrasting white wainscoting. In the Oceanview Room, banks of multipaned windows overlook the Pacific in the distance as well as the garden below. The upstairs includes a relaxing lounge environment that features a built-in granite bar and custom-made furniture. Off to one side and up three steps is the intimate Hearth Room, which lends itself to additional club seating or showcasing the wedding cake. There’s also a small veranda that faces the ocean—it’s perfect for catching a breath of fresh air or watching the spectacular sunsets.
A wide staircase (note the handsome wrought-iron railings) takes you downstairs to another spacious dining room. On the ground floor, light streaming in from a picture window and several skylights reflects off a few large mirrors. French doors open to the garden, making it easy for guests to go outside for some quiet conversation or a stroll among the flowers.
The focus at Verandas is on privacy and flexibility. When you book your event here, you have exclusive use of the entire facility: You can celebrate indoors or out; have music on both floors and in the garden simultaneously; move the portable bar and dance floor wherever you want; and never have to worry about competing with “that other party down the hall.” The staff at New York Food Company are not just food experts, they’re experienced planners who will help you orchestrate as much or as little of your wedding, party or corporate event as you like. It’s rare for a catering company to design their own event location, but after you see what these folks have done with Verandas Beach House, you’ll be convinced they know what they’re doing.
