Why We Like This Place

Although it has stood like an eagle’s nest above San Fernando Valley for the past 30 years, The Odyssey feels brand new, a testimony to careful remodeling and constant tending. Everything gleams—the oak paneling and wainscoting, the brass fixtures, and the floor-to-ceiling windows.

What’s made the Odyssey so popular over the years is its flexibility. With two ceremony sites and five banquet rooms in varying sizes, it’s easy to find a combination that’s a good fit for your event.

The larger of the ceremony spots is the Garden Gazebo. Say your vows in a white octagonal lattice gazebo, backed by a gently cascading rock waterfall and flanked by two ponds. Your guests are seated in front of you on a brick-rimmed patio, surrounded by bright-colored annuals and perennials. In the evening, the sky beyond the garden is glazed with gold, and the trees around the perimeter are aglow with twinkle lights. Another ceremony option is the hillside area, a multitiered deck below the restaurant which literally hangs over the valley. From here you have incredible views of the entire San Fernando Valley.

Now for the reception. If you have a really long guest list, choose the Apollo Room. The Odyssey’s largest and most versatile space, it comes with a huge, built-in parquet dance floor and a bar. The feature you’ll most appreciate, however, is the extraordinary panoramic vista through a wall of two-story-high windows. During the day, the grand sweep of the San Fernando Valley below captures your attention. But as the sun slips away, the scene changes dramatically: color fades to black, and all that remains of the cities in the distance is their lights, glittering against a velvety night sky.

If you don’t need as much space, reserve the Athena Room. Crystal chandeliers, dark wood moulding and wainscoting, and lightly textured walls in two tones of hunter green give it a warm, European feel. It has its own private entry, foyer, fully equipped bar and built-in dance floor. The views here are also outstanding, from a seventy-foot-long wall of windows facing the valley and the surrounding hills.

The Garden, Atlantis, and Olympus Rooms are quite comfortable for more intimate celebrations. The Garden Room overlooks portions of the valley and the Garden Gazebo ceremony site. The Atlantis Room comes equipped with its own bar and dance floor. What it lacks in size, however, it makes up for in view: windows on two sides reveal a vast swath of the L.A. basin.

For most of us marriage is one of the greater odysseys of life, and having your wedding here will get you started on the right path.
