Imagine: You arrive at your private mountainside hideaway, where you have exclusive use of two distinctive venues that radiate Old World charm: The Willows Historic Inn and The O’Donnell House. The estate’s wrought-iron gates open, admitting only you and your privileged guests. Under the shade of towering palms, you leisurely make your way up flagstone steps, past trailing magenta bougainvillea and creekside cactus bowers to the inn itself. Stepping into this enchanting villa, you’ll want to cozy up by the Great Room’s fireplace, surrounded by relics from bygone decades. You begin to sense what it was like back when The Willows hosted movie stars, powerful politicos, world-class intellectuals…and now, you.

The Inn specializes in intimate gatherings, but if you have a larger bash in mind you’ll be captivated by The O’Donnell House. Your scenic shuttle ride to this hilltop home ascends past picturesque rocks and greenery to wrought-iron gates bearing the sign “Ojo del Desierto”—Eye of the Desert. Surveying the sweeping valley vistas from on high, you certainly feel that all the desert’s delights are yours to command. A spacious cliffside stone terrace seems to float above the world, making receptions here both dramatic and exhilarating. Behind the two-story Spanish Revival hacienda, rock archways lead to green meadows dotted with colorful native blooms, a supremely romantic milieu for wedding ceremonies. Whether sealing your vows with a kiss amid the mountain wilderness or dancing cheek to cheek on the terrace, you’ll savor being close to nature and yet so very pampered.

The O’Donnell is available on its own for your event, but why not splurge on a buyout of The Willows’ eight stunning guest rooms, too? That way, you and your bridal party will be treated to unparalleled accommodations, and you’ll also have the option to hold a rehearsal dinner or small celebration at this elite haven. The Willows’ Great Room, with its high, open-beam ceiling, wrought-iron embellishments and grand piano, lends an air of refined luxury to any gathering. French doors lead to the Veranda, a divine spot to sip cocktails. Wedding ceremonies are held in the adjacent Dining Room, which features a striking frescoed ceiling and antique chandeliers. A cut-stone floor and tiled hearth enhance the rustic Mediterranean ambiance. Friends and family are seated facing glass doors left open to a patio, where a waterfall cascading into a garden pool offers a dreamy backdrop for exchanging vows.

The Willows’ seductive guest rooms each have their own character: The Art Deco-style Marion Davies Room is tempting, with sumptuous pearl-white bedding, and a satin chaise lounge alongside a clawfoot tub big enough for two. A balcony overlooks the pool, and comfy loveseats are perfect for curling up by the fireplace. Clark Gable and Carole Lombard spent part of their honeymoon in the Library, which boasts rich mahogany furniture, an elaborate coffered ceiling, and French doors that open onto a private garden courtyard. Or cuddle up to the Loft’s serene mountain views, and be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waterfall…

Originally built in 1925, The O’Donnell House and The Willows have been lovingly restored to their former magnificence and, judging by the awards and raves they’ve received, the project was a smashing success. Fees & Deposits

A deposit of 50% of the total is required to reserve your date and the balance is due 30 days prior to the event. The basic rental fee for The O’Donnell House is $8,250–9,000 depending on the expected guest count. Destination events may want to take advantage of the Deluxe Event Packages which include almost all services and amenities you’ll need, providing greater overall value. Please inquire for details.
