Why We Like This Place
You don’t recall booking any deluxe trips to Tuscany, but suddenly you find yourself surrounded by magnificent Italianate splendor, in a palatial resort looking out on what could be the Mediterranean coast. The calming sound of water tumbling onto itself is everywhere, cascading from multitiered fountains into gem-like pools. All around there’s polished European stone and marble, hand-blown glass, inlaid mosaic tile and intricate ironwork. Overlooking a championship golf course and an ocean panorama stretching as far as the eye can see, a grand outdoor stairway leads to an emerald lawn of regal proportions.
You step onto the outdoor terrace and reach into your pocket, searching for lira that might buy you a cool drink as you contemplate the grandeur before you. Finally, a napkin emblazoned “St. Regis, Monarch Beach” tips you off: you’re not in Italy at all, but rather in balmy Dana Point at one of only a few properties in California to receive the coveted Forbes Five Star and AAA Five Diamond rating, not to mention other accolades like a listing on Travel & Leisure’s “500 Best Hotels in the World” and honors from Conde Nast Traveler as one of the top 50 U.S. resorts.
With its Tuscan-inspired architecture and décor, one-of-a-kind art collection and breathtaking sights, sounds and service, the St. Regis offers the ultimate in luxury for a wedding or corporate event. You’ll be the belle of the hotel ball when you tie the knot under a stately colonnade on the Grand Lawn, fringed by majestic palms that filter views of world-class links and the ocean beyond. More private ceremonies are held on the Pacific Lawn or in the intimate Botanical Garden, the latter an explosion of seasonal color studded with whimsical statuary.
The resort’s most opulent reception site is the 12,000-square-foot Pacific Ballroom, an inspired setting with fine architectural detailing, dazzling chandeliers and French doors opening onto an outdoor terrace. The Monarch Ballroom, capped by a lower coffered ceiling, features a separate entrance for more private affairs. Other indoor options include Club 19, offering expansive views of the Monarch Beach Golf Links, and the Wine Cellar, where 17,000 bottles from around the world are housed amidst rich mahogany and custom iron furnishings. Al fresco receptions are held on either of the hotel’s spacious lawns or on the Sunset Terrace, which overlooks the Grand Lawn, golf course and ocean beyond.
As you might expect of one of the world’s top resorts, the St. Regis is more than an event venue; it’s an extraordinary leisure experience for luxury travelers that will tempt you and your guests to stay awhile. Book a poolside cabana, take a complimentary shuttle to a private beach, challenge yourself on the Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed golf course, or learn to ride the waves with your own “surf butler.” Then let yourself be pampered and beautified at the on-site Spa Gaucin with its own salon. However you spend your time, you’ll discover one thing for sure: no place on the Italian Riviera can top this singularly sensational destination hideaway for flawless service, comfort, cuisine and first-class amenities.
