Why We Like This Place
Possessing the clean air, serenity and clear blue skies of the high desert, Victorville has always been a civilized rest stop, serving as a passenger depot for the Santa Fe Railroad at the turn of the 19th century and then as a township along legendary Route 66. But if you have your event at the Spring Valley Lake Country Club, the burgeoning city of Victorville will be more of a destination than a rest stop for you and your guests.
Built in 1971 on land once used for raising cattle and alfalfa farming, Spring Valley is a shimmering green mirage. Its lush 18-hole golf course overlooks a deep blue lake, ringed by weeping willows and inhabited by lazy carp and contented geese.
Coming inside the recently renovated clubhouse, you leave the desert sun behind and enter a cool, calm sanctuary. The foyer, called the Via Verde Room, has a view of the fairways and the San Bernardino Mountains beyond. It also boasts a large, picturesque stone fireplace that dominates one wall, modern iron-and-glass chandeliers, and handsome brick support columns. With the ambiance of a cozy drawing room, it’s often used for small private parties, cocktails and mingling or wedding ceremonies.
The Mirage Room is the Club’s main reception space, and it’s obvious why members and guests find it so appealing. Cantilevered over the lake, it has floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides that look out onto the water, the verdant golf course and the majestic mountains in the distance. Skylights running the length of the wood-beam ceiling fill the room with light. A full-service bar, dance floor and a nook for a DJ or a band allow for a wide range of entertainment, and there’s even a balcony that wraps around the entire perimeter of the room. Your guests will want to linger here, drinking in the lovely panorama, and if the conditions are just right, they may even be regaled by one of those fiery sunsets particular to the desert.
If you’re extending your stay through the weekend and you’re partial to golf, arrange a tee time on the Club’s Robert Trent Jr./Sr. championship fairways. Non-golfers will find plenty of other activities within an easy drive of Victorville. Nearby Calico is the site of an Early Man archaeological dig and an Old West ghost town. Even closer, the city of Barstow offers a terrific shopping outlet center and one of the last drive-in movie theaters in California. In the winter, snowboarding and skiing are less than an hour away in Big Bear.
Spring Valley provides a private club experience, with service being their top priority. They’ll help you with every aspect of your event, and make sure that you’ll have a beautiful celebration at an affordable price.
