The seaside community of Ventura offers an irresistible combination of picturesque scenery and unpretentious charm, and visitors flock to the quaint shops, antique malls and trendy eateries on its vibrant Main Street. Yet the most venerable attraction is the stunning Mission, a graceful reminder of the town’s origins.
Founded in 1782 by Father Junipero Serra (and the last mission he would personally dedicate in his lifetime), the four-acre complex is tucked against a hillside facing the ocean. Its Spanish-Colonial architecture and signature cross-topped bell tower reflect the area’s rich history—even the 135-year-old twin pines at the entrance are designated landmarks. Marriages have been consecrated here since the early 1900s, and Catholic ceremonies are still welcomed inside the beautiful chapel, whose original adobe walls speak to longevity and commitment.
Mission celebrations are overseen by Plated Events, an experienced local catering team who’ve thoughtfully arranged several additional ceremony options beyond the Mission’s grounds. Across the street is Figueroa Plaza, a treelined promenade flanked by the colorfully vintage Peirano’s grocery building and a lush green park. Couples say their vows between two tiled fountains with a ribbon of ocean in the distance. Opt for the Beach Wedding Package, and the staff will stage your “I do”s alongside the Ventura Pier just a few blocks away. Another romantic choice is Serra Cross Park, a nearby aerie with Pacific vistas stretching to the Channel Islands. These enticing outdoor spots include city permits, your choice of seating, an aisle runner strewn with rose petals, sound system, wedding arch and even a beverage station to welcome your guests!
The cocktail hour in the enchanting Mission Gardens is a not-to-be-missed experience. Guests mingle among the flowers, ornamental palms, and bougainvillea-lined loggias. A magnificent Old World fountain burbles at the center, and fragrant blooms perfume the sea air. Historic markers detail the Mission’s heritage, and a stone grotto dedicated to Our Lady has a spiritual resonance, no matter what your faith. Twinkle lights and sunset-kissed skies enhance the magical ambiance, and your loved ones will want to linger until after dark.
But it’s time to kick up the action with a delicious dinner followed by dancing! Behind the mission, spacious and contemporary O’Brien Hall boasts a lofty ceiling, clerestory windows and a minimalist aesthetic, and it easily transforms into an elegant and grand space, whatever your design and color scheme. The hall is also outfitted with the latest technical capabilities, including a built-in stage to showcase your entertainment and specialty lighting to help personalize your reception. Best of all, a row of street-side windows and a veranda afford spectacular birds-eye views of the Bell Tower, bustling downtown and the surrounding hills and coastline.
Plated Events specializes in farm-to-table cuisine and is known for their mouthwatering, customizable meals. They work with each couple to interpret their wedding vision—all at an affordable price. For added convenience, the Mission is mere steps from nightlife options (after-party, anyone?), and close to a range of local hotels.

CEREMONY CAPACITY: The Mission Church seats 336. A beach ceremony may also be arranged at the nearby Ventura Pier for up to 700 seated guests.
EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: Several rooms accommodate 40–350 seated or 75–700 standing guests. The Mission Gardens hold 125 seated or 200 standing outdoors.
MEETING CAPACITY: O’Brien Hall seats 500 conference-style, and the Bonaventure Room seats 75.
A deposit of 50% of the site fee is required to reserve your date, and the balance is due 30 days prior to the event. The site fee ranges $500–2,000, depending on the space rented, day of the week and event date. Meals range $20–125/person. Tax, alcohol and service charge are additional. Beach Wedding Ceremony packages start at $450 plus $4 per guest, and include permit fee, setup, arbor, chairs, rose-petal aisle runner, beverage station and more.
This venue is brought to you exclusively by Plated Events. The Mission is also available for quinceñeras, parties, concerts, meetings and other gatherings.

However, the church is reserved for Catholic sacred liturgies such as wedding ceremonies, quinceñeras, baptisms, etc. The Mission Gardens are available for photos anytime, or for outdoor non-seated events Monday–Friday and Sunday evening. Please inquire about the Gardens’ availability for Saturday cocktail receptions.
