Why We Like This Place

One can easily forget that Riverwalk Golf Club is at the heart of San Diego’s largest hotel and shopping district. Surrounded by acres of lush green grass and scenic hillsides, the place feels secluded, and that’s what makes it so delightful for special events.

Weddings at Riverwalk are celebrated in the day or evening after the restaurant and its spacious patio have been transformed into a bright and airy party space with nary a hint of its less romantic “day job.” A marble console is strewn with rose petals to make an elegant place card table. Along with an open floor plan, the restaurant’s quiet color palette of cream, white and earth tones conveys simplicity, and can serve as a canvas for more elaborate décor. Florists are free to trim the club’s numerous potted ficus trees with lights or fanciful ornaments. However, the prime draw is the wall of windows looking out onto a pristine expanse of golf greens dotted with sycamore and poplar trees, and distant hills bathed in a sunny glow.

To take advantage of the lovely scenery, ceremonies are held on the spacious restaurant veranda, where gentle breezes balance the warmth of the San Diego sun. With manicured greens, an always-blue sky and a rock-lined river forming the backdrop, the veranda needn’t be heavily embellished; flowers and perhaps some swags of fabric in the wedding’s color scheme are plenty to personalize this outdoor space. Most couples place their wedding arch or chuppah so that they are framed by one of the golf course’s most charming features: a quaint distressed-wood suspension bridge that spans the San Diego River. This enchanting tableau also makes a great photo-op for couples saying their vows.

After the ceremony guests step inside the restaurant to mingle over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The restaurant’s interior is separated from the veranda only by windows and glass doors, so the transition between the two areas is seamless; with all the doors open, guests feel like part of the festivities whether they’re seated indoors or out. The veranda at Riverwalk stays comfortable into the evening, when the breezes die down and the moon and twinkling white lights along the railing provide subtle illumination. After wining and dining, guests show off their moves on the dance floor, while the newlyweds survey the action from the head table, positioned either indoors in front of the center windows, or along the veranda railing facing all of their friends and family.

Centrally located in San Diego County, and minutes from major freeways and attractions, Riverwalk is ideally situated for out-of-town visitors. Yet, since the club is surrounded by the golf course and far from neighboring buildings, the revelry can go late without disturbing anyone. As local golfers know, Riverwalk is an oasis that makes everyday life seem miles away.

Fees & Deposits

A nonrefundable deposit, which is applied to your food and beverage total, is required to reserve your date. The amount of the deposit is equal to 25% of the estimated event total. 50% is due 6 months prior, and 100% of the final estimated balance is due 10 days prior to the event date. Rental fees range $450–1,000 depending on food and beverage ordered. Meals range $21–36/person. Tax, alcohol, and a 20% service charge are additional.
