Many families are fleeing the urban jungle for Oxnard, home to sunny beaches, the famed Strawberry Festival, and some of California’s finest weather. Resting between acres of fertile farmland and sandy shores, Oxnard offers the friendliness of a small town and proximity to big-city attractions. You, however, have one more reason to visit this pleasant community: to stage your wedding or special event at Residence Inn by Marriott at River Ridge. Its unstudied sophistication and peaceful setting will instantly set you at ease. Even the lobby has the atmosphere of a cozy drawing room, with shelves of books and floral sofas arranged around a fireplace.

The Residence Inn is tucked against a rolling sea of green—their popular PGA golf course. You can enjoy the verdant vista without a golf club in your hand by getting married at the Inn’s romantic Garden Gazebo. A brick path, crisply landscaped with flowers and low hedges, winds its way through shady birch and pepper trees, and serves as a picturesque aisle for the bride. The natural-wood gazebo, more spacious than most, is snowy white, a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable ceremony. The reasonably priced ceremony package includes a complete sound system, with a microphone hidden in the gazebo’s rafter; this ensures that the couple’s vows can be heard by the guests, seated in white chairs on the manicured lawn. You can add swaths of tulle, tropical blooms, ferns or ivy, but the pretty setting really requires little embellishment.

For a casual reception or business luncheon, you’ll enjoy the Augusta Room, with its tall windows peering out onto the fairway. Many couples host their bar outside on the open terrace, overlooking a small pond with a spraying fountain on the ninth hole. On the other side of the Inn, a pre-function area with low oak tables and another fireplace provides an inviting setting for cocktails or conference breaks, and is warmed by the natural glow from recessed skylights. The meeting rooms are named for famous golf courses, and are well suited for conferences, business lunches or private rehearsal dinners, with air walls providing added staging flexibility.

The lovely River Ridge Ballroom can accommodate a sizable gala. You can’t help admiring the unique chandeliers, pyramids of glazed crystal with mirrored centers that lend a contemporary ambience to this room. An elevated head table is provided as part of the wedding package, which makes the bride truly feel like a queen for a day, and you can choose from a variety of elegant linens to blend with your decor. Buffet and sit-down menus feature the best of California cuisine, and the catering professionals will work closely with you from the moment you walk through the door until the day you walk down the aisle. Your guests traveling from afar will love the recently modernized guest suites, with flat-screen TVs, built-in stainless steel kitchens with granite countertops, and a posh burgundy, gold and hunter green motif. Complimentary breakfast and swimming pool overlooking the golf course will turn your destination event into a weekend getaway.
