Why We Like This Place

History, seclusion, spacious accommodations, and a magnificent wilderness setting—The Ranch at Laguna Beach has all the best features of the great lodges of the American West … plus it’s just a short walk from the seashore, a quick trolley ride from downtown Laguna Beach, and a mere 25 minutes from John Wayne Airport. And, this local treasure is also well equipped to handle even the most elaborate weddings and events. You know, the kind that turn into week-long vacations because no one wants to leave.

Spread out creekside on the south end of Aliso Canyon and surrounded by Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, the property was first established in 1871 as a 152-acre homestead. It was later purchased and repurposed as the Laguna Beach Country Club, which featured a 9-hole golf course and plans for a hotel, guest lodges, clubhouse, pool, event pavilion, restaurant and other recreational amenities. Today all of these structures exist, and many, though thoughtfully renovated, still retain a great deal of the glamour and polish of bygone days.

Of course, outdoor ceremonies and receptions are beautifully situated next to the golf course, where the carefully tended fairways and greens, waterways and bridges provide a lush background. All around the resort the canyon walls rise up like the sides of an exquisitely landscaped bowl, creating a natural windbreak of wildflowers and trees—a 360-degree Shangri-la. Cocktails and dinner can be served on the Magnolia Patio, named for the pair of trees planted in honor of the inn’s prior owners, or you and your guests can celebrate indoors in the magnificently appointed Special Event Center.

Most of the rooms here feature an abundance of wood: gleaming walnut floors; lustrous paneling; vaulted beamed ceilings with skylights; huge oaken doors; and a selection of handsome built-in all-wood booths and tables. A couple of fireplaces add warmth, while French windows and doors frame terraces and wraparound views. Marvelous bohemian accents, some crafted by talented local artisans, catch the eye. As you take it all in, you feel a romantic sense of being transported back to the heyday of sophistication and style during which many of the country’s great lodges were built. Striking a decidedly different note, the Terrace Ballroom charms with lacey chandeliers, cream-colored walls, and dreamy champagne accents.

There’s no end to the party possibilities at this flexible and affordable location, but perhaps the venue’s most attractive assets are its additional amenities and accommodations. Few golf course environments offer lodging, and even fewer provide lovely family-style cottages, recreational facilities and other services of the caliber you’ll find at The Ranch at Laguna Beach. And they’re always creating something new, like a totally redesigned lounge for the bride and her attendants or an organic kitchen garden. Add to this an experienced staff, well schooled in planning special events, and you have a thoroughly winning combination: all the best of past and present arranged to inspire happy plans for the future.

Fees & Deposits

25% of the estimated total is required to reserve your date and the balance is due 10 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $1500–2500 depending on the day of the event and the space rented. Meals range $85–120/person. Tax, alcohol and a 22% service charge are additional.
