Why We Like This Place

Nature girls and city slickers alike will easily succumb to the charms of Pine Rose Resort’s woodland setting. Less than two hours from most So Cal cities, this mile-high country “getaway” near Lake Arrowhead offers six scenic mountain acres with clean, pine-scented air. While it’s pretty hard to improve on Mother Nature, the folks here have done exactly that by creating two magical wedding sites that take full advantage of the property’s rustic beauty.

The Cedar Creek Pond area, amidst towering evergreens, is perfect for intimate affairs for up to 60. If you tie the knot here, your guests gather in a sun-dappled clearing on semicircular rows of long, smooth log benches. As they await your arrival, you make your entrance via a bridge that spans a seasonal stream, then continue beneath a rose-adorned arbor and down a flagstone path to the gazebo stage topped with a dramatic, log dome. Just beyond the gazebo is a sparkling pond, strewn with lily pads and teeming with colorful koi. Enhanced by romantic bridges, boulders and a vintage swing, it’s a photographer’s delight, providing lots of choice backdrops.

For the reception, you can choose any of the four nearby cabins to anchor the festivities. (There are 20 cabins on site, each unique in décor and many with a history dating back to the vicinity’s logging days.) With fitting names like On The Pond, Ponderosa, Strawberry and Alpine, they all have decks and/or patios.

For larger groups, there’s the fabulous Hidden Creek Lodge, built by the owners for their daughter’s wedding when she couldn’t whittle down her guest list. This multitiered site has a stream running down one side and a serene pond at the base. Cut into the natural slope of the land, its amphitheater-like design affords stadium seating with great vistas and even greater acoustics.

At this venue, the ceremony starts with your walk down the aisle under a log trellis, past all your friends and family seated on several levels of redwood decks. You’ll exchange vows at the gazebo altar, which is artistically crowned with an organic weaving of branches shed from an old oak tree.  Cocktails and dinner follow on three levels of expansive wooden decks adjacent to the lodge. Covered with a wisteria-entwined log arbor, they give everyone unobstructed views of the huge dance floor, festooned with twinkle lights that reflect off the neighboring stream and illuminated waterfall.

This lodge has five bedrooms, making it perfect for post-wedding family sleepovers as well as pre-wedding preparations with the bridesmaids upstairs and a first-floor game room that’s always a hit with the groomsmen. As for the bride and groom, the Rustic Romantic Cabin is an ideal honeymoon suite with a stone fireplace and extra-large Jacuzzi tub.

A big advantage at Pine Rose (aside from the terrific scenery) is flexibility: You can plan your wedding your way for your budget, whether that’s letting the staff handle everything from catering to music…or bringing your own potluck dinner and a programmed iPod. The choice is yours at this irresistible place in the woods.
