Why We Like This Place

For anyone who only knows Pickwick Gardens from their sign on Riverside Drive, walking through the wrought-iron gate in the back will be a revelation, because this has to be one of the most idyllic outdoor wedding spots in the San Fernando Valley.

This area was once the bustling aquatic section of a public recreation complex, but today it’s an expansive, two-and-halfacre, woodland oasis that’s at the very heart of any event at Pickwick Gardens. Paved walkways lit by old-fashioned street lamps meander through the lawns. The varied landscape of this bucolic retreat combines towering pines, graceful jacarandas, spiky palms and majestic oak trees. Old stone fountains serve as multitiered planters, and colorful flowerbeds punctuated with rose bushes and seasonal blooms line the walkways. At the center of the garden is a huge tented pavilion with overhead fans. A raised stage at one end is anchored by a curving, river rock wall that would make a beautiful altar backdrop for your ceremony…or you can exchange vows on a lawn, shaded by trees. Afterwards, serve cocktails under the pavilion as the late afternoon and evening breezes come off the Santa Monica Mountains in nearby Griffith Park.

Bordering the gardens are several banquet rooms, each with a private bridal room where you and your attendants can get ready. Most have full-on, outdoor views and awning-covered patios. The very popular Garden Room features a unique rotunda and circular parquet dance floor set against tall windows, while the charming, newly renovated Terrace Room is bright with a white, woodbeamed ceiling, white wainscoting and golden candelabra chandeliers. Just outside the Terrace Room windows sits a bubbling fountain in its own private mini-garden, separated from the main gardens by a low wall of natural stone.

If your guest list truly includes all your nearest and dearest, there’s the 8,500-squarefoot Royal Crest Ballroom, which can comfortably accommodate 550 guests for a sit-down dinner and dancing. Decorated in rich tones of garnet and gold paisley, its regal ambiance is further established by windows draped with swags and valances, and huge chandeliers dripping with crystals.

Whether you desire a formal dinner, a buffet with ethnic specialties or more casual fare for a bridal shower or rehearsal dinner, an executive chef is on site to help you customize your menu. And if you feel like arranging a fairy-tale entrance on horseback or by horse-drawn carriage from the neighboring Equestrian Center, a full-time wedding planner can assist you in tailoring your event to make it suit you perfectly.

Fees & Deposits

A $500–2,500 deposit is required to reserve your date and the balance is due 45 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $1,500–8,500 depending on the guest count. Meals range $30–90/person. Tax, alcohol and a 19% service charge are additional.
