Why We Like This Place
Millions of dollars’ worth of beautiful cars make an amazing backdrop for a glamorous reception, but the Petersen Automotive Museum also offers a unique setting that dazzles without cars: a private rooftop penthouse with a fabulous view.
Their 4th-floor “terrace in the sky” is an architecturally intriguing space: an all-glass venue surrounded by a smooth, slate patio. Many couples have their ceremony on one side of the patio and host a seated reception on the other, using the penthouse itself for cocktails and dancing. When you add lounge furniture, the “room” takes on the feeling of a nightclub. However, you’re free to choreograph your celebration any way you like, and no matter where you are in this thoroughly modern aerie you’ll be cooled by passing breezes and enjoy a vista that’s pure L.A. The daytime panorama showcases the Hollywood Hills and Century City, with the sheer walls of nearby high-rises adding a special Miracle Mile thrill. At night, Los Angeles becomes a sea of glittering lights.
The seven galleries that make up the second floor are also available for corporate parties, conferences, product launches and other events. They showcase exhibits (two of them rotating) of a wide range of vehicles, from vintage, celebrity and race cars to hot rods and motorcycles. Cocktail receptions are especially popular in the Hollywood Gallery, which features cars that have starred in movies, the most famous of which is the Batmobile. From here guests move into the adjacent Grand Salon for dinner and dancing among a completely different set of impressive cars. If you have a very large group, reserve the Pavilion just off the second floor. With 18,000 square feet and room to seat up to 800, it’s perfect for galas and fundraisers.
Even the exhibits on the first floor, which depict the history of the automobile, serve as a fun, interactive environment for cocktail receptions or informal gatherings. Lifelike dioramas and settings allow guests to experience the automobile as it relates to everyday life. You can also pose for photos next to some of the museum’s celebrity cars.
Pay a visit to the Petersen Automotive Museum, and you’ll see first hand what a special place it is for events. One of the perks of having your wedding here is a 1-year museum membership for the bride and groom. It includes unlimited free admission, invita-tions to the members-only special events and a 10% discount in the museum store. Whether you party in the Penthouse or in one of the other galleries, your guests will be thanking you for introducing them to this gem of a location.
