Why We Like This Place
There’s nothing pretentious about the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort, where weddings and special events are, quite simply, a blast. Nestled on a picturesque lagoon at the entrance to the Back Bay Nature Preserve and the Newport Bay Conservancy, this 110-acre retreat offers 50,000 square feet of function space including 10 exciting indoor and outdoor venues … along with planning assistance, catering, accommodations, and loads of fun at extraordinarily affordable prices.
One reason this resort is so popular is that Coast Magazine named its Pavilions the top beach location for events in Orange County. Here, you can have your ceremony, reception, business gala, picnic, barbecue, or any other celebration, right on the beach. That means watersports, volleyball, bonfires and actual sand between your toes are all part of the scene at this much-loved venue. Another reason for its popularity is the wide range of settings to choose from—all of which can be reimagined in a multitude of ways with the help of the experienced and accessible staff.
Take, for example, those Pavilions: Cabana-like structures built over cement pads on the beach, they’re easily transformed with tables, twinkle lights, tiki torches and more into magical environments. The Gazebo is, as the name suggests, outdoors and tailored for weddings—especially if your guest list is on the slightly longer side. This romantic spot has the same beachy endowments that the Pavilions possess, and its garden-style gazebo roofed in Spanish tile, ceremony lawn and white picket fence make it even more charming. A special parking lot nearby is convenient for food trucks, carriages, limos, fancy motorcycles, classic cars—and other playful party additions on wheels.
For events on a grand scale—giant weddings or fundraisers, super-sized corporate extravaganzas, and festivals—the Bayside Pavilion can accommodate happy guests by the hundreds. It’s a 14,000-square-foot structure that’s open-air for half the year and tented November to March (although you can add a tent during warmer months, too). Another option for parties numbering in the hundreds is the Marina Terrace, an expansive grass area on the other side of the lagoon. Both sites offer maximum flexibility for your multifaceted affair, and include plenty of room on the beach plus lagoon, harbor and Back Bay views.
Want to celebrate indoors? The attractive Bay View Room, which is perfect for more intimate events, features multiple sets of French doors that open to a lush garden and frame lovely views of the lagoon. For larger groups, the spectacular Back Bay Bistro is the place. An outdoor deck, a vast wall of windows that look out over the picturesque Back Bay and Marina, and a retractable roof make it a stunning space. It also provides private salons for cozier get-togethers, as well as a banquet menu that includes delicious and delightfully fresh American, Mediterranean, Hispanic, Asian and other fusions of favorite cuisines.
When the festivities are over, no need to leave. There’s a host of comfy beach cottages and bungalows at the resort, and the Hyatt Newport Beach is right across the street. So stay and enjoy the destination, the activities, and the lifestyle that have made the region famous.
