Why We Like This Place
Situated at the gateway to Brentwood and Bel Air, atop a steep winding road that heightens expectations as you ascend, Moun-tainGate does not disappoint. The country club—the jewel of a private residential development—is a breath of fresh air for L.A. brides and grooms because of its panoramic views and convenient location (just a short drive from Beverly Hills and the Valley).
Fronted by a cobblestone entryway and a white porte-cochère with a red-tiled roof, the clubhouse is embraced by a grove of tall conifers and native trees. The building evokes Frank Lloyd Wright’s aesthetic, with its angular geometric configuration and heavy use of natural wood and glass inside. In contrast to the angular geometry, the slender entry walkway makes its way over a large, oval-shaped pond, encircled by ferns, bougainvillea, azaleas, birds of paradise and other tropical plants. It’s a calming and inviting environment, and guests take their time walking over the pond and into the building’s foyer. Needless to say, the pond and walk-way are a favorite spot for individual or group photos.
The best spot for outdoor ceremonies is a picturesque, perfectly manicured fairway at the edge of an expansive golf course that constitutes MountainGate’s backyard. The green overlooks serene rolling hills, and sits beneath a cluster of birch trees that provide respite from the sun. It’s backed by dozens of multicolored roses, which lend a heavenly fragrance to the air during the early summer.
Wedding receptions are held in the club’s dining room or, for larger parties, on the garden patio adjacent to the main dining room. A continuum of floor-to-ceiling windows around three sides of the room let in plenty of light, and showcase three tee-off greens, emerald fairways and the Santa Monica Mountains in the distance. The room features a warm-colored cherrywood ceiling, rimmed by oversized cherrywood crown moldings. At night it has a romantic glow emanating from rustic wrought-iron chandeliers and matching wall sconces. Walls are a creamy taupe, imprinted with a subtle pattern, and the carpet, which has an earthtone pattern, completes the room.
Separating the main dining room from the bar is a double-sided fireplace, clad in earth-toned slate tiles. Guests mingle and enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the bar, and can then retreat to the dining room for seated receptions. For dancing the night away, you can use a portable dance floor in the main dining room or dance in the atrium, which features a sunken gray-marble fountain. For a romantic touch, the club will accent the fountain with flickering candles at no extra cost.
In addition to the smart architecture and attractive landscaping, what really makes a MountainGate wedding so memorable is the hospitable attitude that prevails among staffers. Everyone goes out of his or her way to make your wedding feel special, and you get a lot of extra attention due to MountainGate’s policy of hosting only one wedding at a time.
