Two natural rock pillars frame the entryway to the Malibou Lake Mountain Club, a private club nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains. A rustic colonial façade with a wide front veranda leads you into the clubhouse, and once inside the spacious main room, it’s easy to envision a terrific event here. Wood walls are finished in a whitewashed gray with white trim, providing a neutral backdrop for any color scheme. The warm glow from a fireplace adds a homey touch. On the right side of the room a huge bay window flanked by French doors overlooks a gently sloping lawn, bordered by eucalyptus and pine trees. The stage in front of the window can be used for a band, making toasts or even an indoor ceremony.
Given its neutral décor, you can have a field day decorating the club. One group had an elegant black-and-white affair, with guests garbed in tuxedos and snazzy dresses; another staged a westerntheme party, with bales of hay, white foam horses on the tables and a barbecue reception on the lawn. Still a third hosted a renaissance gala, complete with period costumes, wandering minstrels and rounds of croquet and bocce ball.
Most weddings take place at the far end of the lawn, overlooking the lake. Feel free to customize your ceremony too, by adding an arch, gazebo, tent or any other element you choose. Afterwards, your guests can mingle on the grass and admire the view of the sparkling lake with the Santa Monica mountains in the distance. The lawn also lends itself to lively company picnics, reunions or anniversary parties—there’s plenty of room for all kinds of interactive games, sports or carnival activities.
The beauty of this place—aside from its country setting—is that you have carte blanche (within reason) to design whatever celebration you desire. No two parties are alike here, so if you want plenty of control over your event, come to the Malibou Lake Mountain Club and have the creative time of your life.
CEREMONY CAPACITY: The lawn holds up to 400 guests.
EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: Indoors, the facility holds up to 200 seated. A smaller room is available for 10–50 guests.
MEETING CAPACITY: The facility can accommodate 175 seated theater-style or 200 conference-style.
A $2,000 nonrefundable deposit and signed contract are required to secure your date. 20% of the food and beverage cost is due within 90 days of booking, and the balance is due 12 days before the event.
The rental fees for 2015 are: Monday–Thursday, $250/hour with a 4-hour minimum; Friday, $2,500; Saturday, $4,900; and Sunday, $2,900.
The rental fees for 2016 are: Monday–Thursday, $250/hour with a 4-hour minimum; Friday, $2,300; Saturday, $5,300; and Sunday, $3,300.
Wedding packages start at $44/person and include food, beverage and some rentals.
