La Jolla Shores Hotel

Why We Like This Place

With some of the most beautiful coastline in the world, it’s no wonder California makes so many brides think BEACH WEDDING. The sun sparkling on the water…the sound of the surf…a cool breeze…it’s the quintessential SoCal scene for tying the knot. The tricky part is finding a place on the beach that also takes care of all the details, offers several reception options, serves up a menu to die for, and is located in a town oozing with charm. Well, we’ve found it for you: the La Jolla Shores Hotel.

Located on two acres of beachfront property, this rambling hacienda-style resort is one of the very few in San Diego county that’s allowed to host weddings directly on the sand. Before every event, they meticulously groom the shoreline and, as if waves lapping ashore right next to you wasn’t heavenly enough, they can even add palm trees down the aisle or an altar of tropical flowers.

With a setting like this, you may want to continue your celebration seaside, or you can head to the private, second-floor Acapulco Deck for cocktails and killer coastal views. When you’re ready for dinner, move inside to the Acapulco Room, where floor-to-ceiling windows showcase dazzling sunset vistas.

If you prefer to see and hear the ocean but not necessarily have your ceremony on the sand, the three-story hotel’s central Garden Courtyard is a perfect alternative. Shaded with lattice and paved with terracotta tiles, this festive open-air space affords a long center aisle for a dramatic walk to the altar. Lushly planted borders—abloom with birds of paradise, hibiscus, azaleas and various palms—set the stage, framed by the red-tiled-roof overhangs of the surrounding guestrooms. Afterwards, guests can mingle over cocktails on the adjacent Fountain Patio, featuring a tall, arched breezeway with the beach just steps away.

Then, it’s back to the Courtyard for your dinner reception or…host it on the Shores Patio, directly facing the beach. In fact, many couples choose to say “I do” on the patio in front of that magnificent ocean, which is equally captivating at night when the surf is illuminated by spotlights. If you get married here, you can join your family and friends for a glass of bubbly in the neighboring bar alcove and segue to dinner and dancing in the La Jolla Room. This romantic space has graceful, arched windows and glass doors so it feels airy and open, plus it’s the best spot in the hotel to kick up your heels with music and dancing.

Beach hotels rarely win raves for their food, but the award-winning culinary team at the La Jolla Shores Hotel will customize a delectable menu for you with ingredients so fresh you’ll swear they were just plucked from the sea or farm. The entire staff is also incredibly accommodating, and can arrange everything from in-room massages to tennis games to shopping trips in the chic town of La Jolla for guests who want to stay over and make a weekend of it.
