Why We Like This Place
City sophistication meets easy, beachy cool at the relaxed and urbane Hyatt The Pike hotel in Long Beach. And, like a really good marriage, the hotel manages to blend these two very different personalities into one cohesive identity.
This sleek urban oasis is also a chic, seaside wedding and events venue situated in an area known as The Pike. Once a rowdy port stop where sailors cut loose, the neighborhood was razed to the ground in the 80s but has risen like a phoenix since then. Today, the hotel enjoys an enviable location just a few steps from the picturesque waterfront’s park and attractions and a short stroll from Pine Avenue’s pulsating local scene.
The lobby invites you in with a soothing color palette of muted blues and grays, accented by warm teakwood and butter-yellow sofas. A sculptural tree, “planted” in the mirrored floor, seems to rise up from the “water.” Water is definitely a theme here, as evidenced in the Lounge, which offers a modern riff on a nautical motif with wood plank floors, white leather couches and navy blue rugs. Natural light streams in through floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to a charming “pocket park” across the street (great for photos).
Most weddings start in the Courtyard, an al fresco gem at the heart of the hotel. Nestled between the glass-walled lobby and the sandstone guest tower, the large wood-decked space is perfect for your ceremony, where you walk down the long center aisle to exchange vows against a backdrop of feathery bamboo. If you prefer to tie the knot indoors, try the private Gallery Room on the other side of the lobby. Either way, glass “nano” doors can slide back to give you access to cocktails in the lobby, Lounge or the courtyard-adjacent Club Room, which can also accommodate your band/Dj and dance floor.
Then, invite everyone back to the Courtyard for a sit-down reception under the stars, enhanced by twinkle lights wrapped around tall potted evergreen trees. And just for fun, why not project home movies starring the bride and groom directly on the courtyard wall?
There’s a lot of flexibility in how you choreograph your event here, but one spot that is not be missed is the Rooftop Pool Deck. The breathtaking, 360-degree panoramas from this 8th-floor vantage encompass the nearby Aquarium, Queen Mary, 1940s Ferris wheel, Long Beach port and downtown skyline. Combine a couple of cabanas for a posh, and truly spectacular, intimate reception or rehearsal dinner. And speaking of dinner, Hyatt The Pike’s inventive chef enjoys putting interesting twists on old favorites, and will gladly work with you to customize your menu. In addition, the enthusiastic staff is happy to help your out-of-town guests turn their stay into a mini-vacation.
