Why We Like This Place

Far from the hustle and bustle of city life, the Hummingbird Nest ranch is an oasis of tranquility and beauty. Extending over 140 acres, the estate’s landscape transitions from the earth tones of the Santa Susana Mountains that surround it to the vibrantly colored blooms of the native plants lining its curving roadways and lush green pastures.

There are so many things here that please the eye and inspire the soul, among them bubbling fountains, meandering pathways, hidden gazebos and spectacular mountain vistas. This is truly an extraordinary location for events ranging from weddings and formal dinners to awards ceremonies and charity balls. Corporations also find that Hummingbird’s serene environment is conducive to successful meetings and seminars.

Presiding over the property at the top of a hill is the sprawling, 17,000-square-foot Spanish Colonial-style villa. Arched entryways, curved columns, tiled staircases and the prodigious use of fancy ironwork add grace and drama to the crisp white façade. At the front of the building, the main circular court with its central fountain has such a lovely view that it’s sometimes used during the ceremony as a backdrop to the bride’s dramatic entrance down the front steps of the villa. 


Just to the left of the main entrance, there’s a wrought-iron gate that leads to a garden, complete with a natural stone waterfall and a Spanish-tiled gazebo—another favorite ceremony backdrop. To the right, a multilevel patio with fountains, iron lanterns and an array of palms offers enormous flexibility for receptions, whether large scale or more intimate. From this vantage, you can look down over the sweeping acreage to the vast Grand Prix Lawn below, which can be tented and is perfect for very large weddings, music festivals and other grand events. Hummingbird Nest’s newest area is the expansive Lake Lawn. Bordering a tranquil lake, it makes a beautiful area for celebrations as well as an excellent backdrop for bridal photos.

Yet, there are still more tempting options to explore on the park-like grounds. At a recent wedding, guests had cocktails on the patio then strolled along a paved pathway to a large open field that can easily accommodate 1,000. The bride and groom, in keeping with the pastoral surroundings, arrived by horse-drawn carriage. 



For a very romantic setting that draws upon the history of the property, there’s the secluded original 1920s ranch house, known as “Sitting Bull.” Utterly charming, the brick-and-adobe building is shaded by century-old eucalyptus and olive trees. It features a cobblestone courtyard (where you can add a dance floor), a sizeable garden, and a sparkling pool area decorated with two ornamental carved wooden horses.

To complete the experience, extend your stay in one of several fully equipped three- to four-bedroom cottages. Hummingbird Nest Ranch takes you away from your daily routine, providing a place to relax, laugh and just let go. By the time you leave, you’ll feel enriched, refreshed and looking forward to returning for future events.

A 50% deposit is required to reserve your date. Rental fees, which start at $5,000, vary depending on the space rented and guest count. Security and valet parking are required, all service providers must be insured to perform services on the property.
