Why We Like This Place
One of our acquaintances was married on a yacht, and we can personally attest to the fact that it was a memorable experience for everyone aboard. We enjoyed it all—the glorious day, the light breezes, and the joy that comes with being on the bay. If a wedding on the water sounds like a great idea to you, Hornblower Cruises & Events has a fleet of 26 yachts in five California ports that can accommodate almost any type of celebration you can think of. Each of Hornblower’s vessels has its own individual style.
High Spirits, easily the most romantic yacht in the San Diego fleet, is perfect for groups of 50 to 120. Designed by world-renowned yachtsman John Trumpy, this teak-and-mahogany sloop was built in 1929 and features exquisite antique furniture and detailing, including some classic appointments from the Prohibition Era. High Spirits was originally constructed as a sister ship to the USS Sequoia, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidential yacht, and now is one of the finest historic yachts available for entertaining on the West Coast.
Emerald Hornblower is a sleek 85-foot Skipper liner, popular for private weddings and reception charters for groups up to 70. The boat’s state-of-the-art convertible sunroof lets guests enjoy San Diego’s sunshine and fresh sea air at the push of a button. There’s also a spacious main dining salon that boasts giant windows, a bar and a full-service galley. Guests can take in San Diego Harbor’s stunning views as they eat, then ascend to the Starlight deck for outdoor dancing on the 460-square-foot parquet floor. For those who simply wish to relax after their meal, the plush and contemporary Admiral’s Cabin is available for a little luxury at sea. Any Hornblower yacht will also pick up guests at any waterfront hotel guest dock.
For a more intimate celebration of up to 40, Renown is an excellent choice. While the ship was constructed mostly out of mahogany, the interior is done in warm dark cherrywood. The roomy and handsome main salon also includes a solid teak bar and touches of hand-rubbed natural walnut throughout. Both the main salon and dining deck provide panoramic views, complemented by a walkway encircling the entire yacht. Topping off Renown’s extensive list of amenities are three private staterooms, a bar, dance area, stereo system, and an on-board full-service galley.
Hornblower’s traditional table service includes white linens, fine china and glassware, and service by an award-winning, nautically attired crew. Whether you’re planning an elaborate formal affair or a more casual one, you can be sure this seasoned staff will customize your event to suite your personal tastes.
